Job description of the President Presidents have many powers: 1. They make treaties with foreign governments 2. They serve as commander in chief of the armed forces. 3. They approve or disapprove of the laws that the legislature (law making arm of government) passes. 4. Presidents also appoint people to head the major departments of the government. These people form the president’s cabinet. They are called ministers.
