The president is elected in national elections
which take place after every four years based
on the following criteria:
1. They are a citizen of Nigeria by birth;
2. They have attained the age of thirty five
years;
3. They are a member of a political party and
is sponsored by that political party;
4. They have been educated up to at least
School Certificate level or its equivalent.

Job description of the President
Presidents have many powers:
1. They make treaties with foreign governments
2. They serve as commander in chief of the armed forces.
3. They approve or disapprove of the laws that the
legislature (law making arm of government) passes.
4. Presidents also appoint people to head the major
departments of the government. These people form the
president’s cabinet. They are called ministers.

At federal level, the President appoints ministers who head the
