REVELATION 16
The 7 Seals that were opened in Revelation 6, covered
most of the Tribulation Period.
The 7 Trumpets that were sounded in Revelation 8
and 9 covered the last 3 ½ years of the Tribulation
Period.
The 7 vials (bowls) of wrath that are poured out in this
Chapter will evidently take place in the last final
days of the Tribulation.
“And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to
the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the
wrath of God upon the earth.” Rev. 16:1
The 7 angels mentioned here were presented to us before:
“And I saw another sign in heaven, great and
marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for
in them is filled up the wrath of God.”
Revelation 15:1
“And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven
angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth
for ever and ever.” Revelation
15:7
“And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the
earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the
men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which
worshipped his image.” Rev. 16:2
The Lord is able to restrict His judgment to select people.
“And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take
to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses
sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh. And it
shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be
a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast,
throughout all the land of Egypt. And they took ashes of the
furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it
up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with
blains upon man, and upon beast. And the magicians could
not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was
upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.”
“And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the
earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the
men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which
worshipped his image.” Rev. 16:2
“But against any of the children of Israel shall not a
dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may
know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the
Egyptians and Israel.”
Exodus 11:7
“And the second angel poured out his vial upon the
sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every
living soul died in the sea.”
Rev. 16:3
A similar judgment occurred on the Nile in Egypt.
“Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I
am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine
hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall
be turned to blood. And the fish that is in the river shall die,
and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall loathe to
drink of the water of the river”
Exodus 7:17, 18
“And the third angel poured out his vial upon the
rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.”
Rev. 16:4
All sources of fresh drinking water are destroyed.
“And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art
righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because
thou hast judged thus. For they have shed the blood of saints
and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for
they are worthy.” Rev. 16:5, 6
There is an angel over the waters of the Earth. He responds
with a two fold praise:
1.) The Lord Jesus Christ is righteous in all His judgments.
2.) Those who are under the judgment deserve all they are
getting. They have shed the blood of God’s people,
now they are only given blood to drink.
“And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so,
Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.”
Rev. 16:7
Another angel out of the altar joins in the praise to God. The
One whose name is ‘Faithful and True’ is righteous in
all His judgments.
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse;
and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in
righteousness he doth judge and make war.” Revelation
19:11
“And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the
sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.”
Rev. 16:8
The sun is allowed to get much hotter.
The people who dwell on the Earth will be scorched with the
heat.
“And men were scorched with great heat, and
blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these
plagues: and they repented not to give him glory” Rev. 16:9
The bodies are now scorched with heat and all drinking
water has become blood.
They blaspheme the name of God because they know He is
the One who is tormenting them.
Yet, they refuse to repent and give Him glory.
Placing faith in the Antichrist will remove any possibility of
repenting and placing faith in the real Christ!
“And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat
of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they
gnawed their tongues for pain.” Rev. 16:10
The entire kingdom of the Beast is covered with darkness. A
darkness that was so deep they begin to chew their
tongues.
“And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine
hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the
land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt. And Moses
stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a
thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: They saw
not one another, neither rose any from his place for three
days: but all the children of Israel had light in their
dwellings.”
Exodus 10:21-23
“And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their
pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.”
Rev. 16:11
The people continue to blaspheme God because of the pain
they are going through.
They still refuse to repent of the awful deeds they were doing
to the people of God.
You will notice that they still have sores resulting from the
previous vials of wrath poured out. This proves that
the effect of each vial continued when the other vials are
poured out.
“And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the
great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up,
that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.”
Rev. 16:12
The river Euphrates is dried up preparing the way for the
200,000,000 man army to come against Jerusalem.
“Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet,
Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river
Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were
prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year,
for to slay the third part of men. And the number of the
army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand
thousand: and I heard the number of them.”
Revelation 9:14-16
“And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of
the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast,
and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the
spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the
kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to
the battle of that great day of God Almighty.” Rev.
16:13, 14
A parenthetical text begins after the 6th Vial, just as it did
after the 6th seal and 6th
trumpet.
Demonic spirits come out of the mouth of Satan, the
antichrist, and his false prophet.
All the kings and the whole world of the antichrist becomes
demon possessed.
Satan is unleashing all his forces trying to fight against God.
“Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth,
and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see
his shame.” Rev. 16:15
The third “Blessing” is bestowed upon the people of God.
The first two:
“Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the
words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are
written therein: for the time is at hand.” Rev.
1:3
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me,
Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from
henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from
“And he gathered them together into a place called in
the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.” Rev.
16:16
The armies from the East are gathered in the valley of
Jehoshaphat which lies beside Mount Megiddo. The term
“Armageddon” comes from Mount Megiddo.
This small mountain was a very important military site.
Whoever controls this mountain could successfully fight
against those down in the valley.
MORE ON THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON
The Antichrist will rule through 10 Kings who will rule over 10
Kingdoms that are spaced over the earth.
Daniel reveals at the end of the Tribulation 3 of those Kings will
rebel against the Antichrist.
The first two will be from the south and the north.
“And at the time of the end shall the king of the south
push at him: and the king of the north shall come against
him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and
with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and
shall overflow and pass over” Daniel 11:40
To keep from fighting on 2 fronts the Antichrist immediately
attacks the kingdom to the south.
“He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the
countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape”
Daniel 11:42
The destruction in Egypt was revealed in Ezekiel 29 &
30 in study of chapters 14 & 15.
Antichrist then hears the north and east are coming.
“But tidings out of the east and out of the north
shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great
fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.”
Daniel 11:44
The destruction coming to the king of the north is revealed in
Ezekiel 38 & 39 as revealed in our study of Chapters
14 & 15.
The coming of the king of the east with an army of 200
million was revealed in Chapter 9 when an angel prepared
the Euphrates for the army to cross.
It is the coming of this army from the east into the Holy Land
to try to destroy the Antichrist that begins the Battle of
Armageddon.
Soldiers from other nations will likely join them.
WHY WILL THESE KINGS REBEL AGAINST THE
ANTICHRIST?
It made sense to follow him at the beginning after the world wide
upheaval resulting from the Rapture.
The change in the Antichrist that happened in the middle of the
Tribulation changed the way he ruled.
The Islamic nations, Russia and China have always hated the
Promised Land and that is where the Antichrist throne is.
There are reasons to believe the Antichrist will be a Jew since
Daniel said he left ‘the God of his fathers.’
It was an act of God to curse the nations who had cursed Israel
as He promised Abraham He would do!
“And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air;
and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from
the throne, saying, It is done.” Rev. 16:17
The final angel pours out his vial after the parenthetical text.
Note the 1st
poured his out on the earth, the 2nd
on the sea,
the 3rd
on the rivers, the 4th
on the sun, the 5th
on the seat
of the beast, the 6th
on the Euphrates, but this one
pours his out into the air.
A voice out of the Temple in Heaven declares, “It is done!”
“It is done” means “I am finished!”
“Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD;
this is the day whereof I have spoken.” Ezekiel 39:8
“And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega,
the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of
the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall
inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
Revelation 21:6, 7
“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he
said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the
ghost.” John 19:30
“And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings;
and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since
men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so
great.” Rev.
16:18
Similar signs that followed the 7th Trumpet are seen here:
“And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and
there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and
there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an
earthquake, and great hail.”
Revelation 11:19
This final earthquake was seen in the 6th seal (6:12) and the
6th trumpet (11:13), but the greatness is described here.
“And the great city was divided into three parts, and
the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in
remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the
wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled
away, and the mountains were not found.” Rev.
16:19, 20
The devastation of Jerusalem and much of the world is
described. The entire topography around Jerusalem is
changed.
“And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount
of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the
mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the
east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great
valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the
north, and half of it toward the south.”
“All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to
Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and
inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place
of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of
Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses.” Zechariah 14:10
“And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven,
every stone about the weight of a talent: and men
blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the
plague thereof was exceeding great.”
Rev. 16:21
The hail described in this verse was also seen following the
sounding of the 7th
trumpet in Revelation 11:19.
