Going to Battle
Timothy Leonard
Deuteronomy 20:1-6
• 20 When you go to war against your enemies and see
horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do
not be afraid of them, because the Lord your God, who
brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you. 2 When you
are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward
and address the army. 3 He shall say: “Hear, Israel: Today
you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be
fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them.
4 For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to
fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”
• 5 The officers shall say to the army: “Has anyone built a new
house and not yet begun to live in it? Let him go home, or he
may die in battle and someone else may begin to live in it. 6
Has anyone planted a vineyard and not begun to enjoy it? Let
him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else enjoy
it. 7 Has anyone become pledged to a woman and not married
her? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone
else marry her.” 8 Then the officers shall add, “Is anyone afraid
or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his fellow soldiers will
not become disheartened too.” 9 When the officers have
finished speaking to the army, they shall appoint commanders
over it.
What can You see this
• This verse emphasizes God's reassurance to the
Israelites. When they face powerful enemies, they are told
not to fear because God is on their side. The reference to
Egypt serves as a reminder of God's past deliverance,
encouraging them to trust in His power over any military
advantage their enemies may have.
Joshua 1:9 (NIV):
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your
God will be with you wherever you go."
Question
• Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we wrestle not against flesh
and blood, but against principalities, against powers..."
How do you understand the concept of spiritual warfare,
and how do you prepare yourself spiritually for the battles
you face in life?
Concept of spiritual warfare,
• The concept of spiritual warfare highlights that our
struggles often go beyond what we see in the physical
world. It's a reminder that prayer, faith, and reliance on
God are essential tools in our battles. Reflecting on how
we prepare spiritually for life's challenges helps us
recognize the importance of staying grounded in God’s
truth and protection."
1) We can prepare spritiual by faith
Faith is not just about listening and understanding you need
to put it into action. Tests are a great way to examine
whether we truly understand the Word of God in our lives.
The thing alway closed that is the thing that we want .
However, we alway remember the scripture that says, 'If
you believe, you will see the glory of God.' Our hearts tend
to focus on other things."
That is not a real faith is coming from understand and never
asked question
let us look at (Mathew 22:23-27)
Jesus Walks on the Water
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of
him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed
them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he
was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from
land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When
the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,”
they said, and cried out in fear.
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
• This reminds us that during trials, we should not be afraid,
but trust in God's power.
• That is a great sample of live of christian
• When trouble is coming Humans have limitations in their
power to resolve things. Some may forget to call out to
the Lord when facing difficulties, and as a result, they may
feel their problems remain unsolved. We should not be
among those who forget to call on the Lord. Instead, we
should focus on Him, and when we do, the Lord will turn
to us.( Timothy Yong)
We should regular Prayer and Meditation
• Regular Prayer and Meditation: Establishing a routine for
prayer deepens our connection with God, allowing us to
communicate our struggles and seek guidance.
Meditation on spiritual truths can bring clarity and calm.
• Every prayer that we pray . God will answer the prayer .
• I know that Christian disciples pray diligently. They also
follow the guidance of the Bible by having faith and
inviting others to pray. Even when there seems to be no
result, they should not give up. God is not asleep; He is
doing His work."
• Establishing a routine for prayer deepens our connection
with God. Through prayer, we communicate our struggles,
and through meditation, we gain clarity and calm. Even
when there seems to be no result, we must remember
that God is always at work.
We have to Study of Scripture of text
• Study of Scripture Texts: Reading and reflecting on
scriptures provides wisdom, inspiration, and the ability to
face trials with understanding and faith.
• 1) Book of Job
• 2) David and golatih
• 3) Esther
• 4) Israel out of Egept
• Reflecting on stories like Job, David and Goliath, and the
Israelites' exodus from Egypt strengthens our faith and
provides wisdom for facing trials. Scripture reminds us
that God will guide us and transform us when we put
everything in His hands.
• That scripture is mention that Follow god , You will be the
fisher of men.
• Put everything to God , God will lead you in everything
that you do
• You will also be ye transformed
Personal Stories
I have never deeply gotten to know God. I always keep
questioning why He takes things away, and why I have to
face certain challenges. However, when I look at the
scripture, I begin to understand God's purpose. His purpose
is for me to focus on Him. Put him first in everyday you do .
I trust one day , God will repay everything that i lost
Key lesson
• 1) Put faith in action
• 2) Regular prayer and meditation
Conclusion
• As Christians, we are constantly reminded that our battles are not just physical but spiritual.
Ephesians 6:12 tells us that "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the
rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual
forces of evil in the heavenly realms." In these battles, we are called to put on the full armor
of God—truth, righteousness, faith, and the Word of God—as our defense and weapon
(Ephesians 6:13-17).
• Though the challenges we face may seem overwhelming, we must always remember that
victory is found in Christ. He has already overcome the world (John 16:33), and with Him, we
can stand firm against any opposition. Through prayer, faith, and a deep connection with
God, we are strengthened for every battle that comes our way.
• In the end, Christian battles are about trusting God's purpose and provision, knowing that He
fights alongside us and ultimately brings about our victory. With our focus on Him, we can
move forward with courage, knowing that "if God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans
8:31).
