The Collect
The First
Reading
A reading from the prophet
Isaiah.
The Lord has opened my ear.
For my part, I made no
resistance, neither did I turn
away. I offered my back to
those who struck me, my
cheeks to those who tore at
my beard; I did not cover my
face against insult and
spittle. The Lord comes to my
help, so that I am untouched
by the insults. So, too, I set
my face like flint; I know I
shall not be shamed. My
vindicator is here at hand.
Does anyone start
proceedings against me?
Then let us go to court
together. Who thinks he has a
case against me? Let him
approach me. The Lord is
coming to my help, who will
dare to condemn me?
The Word
of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
I will walk in the
presence of the Lord
in the land of the
living.
The Psalm
I love the Lord for he has heard the
cry of my appeal; for he turned
his ear to me in the day when I
called him.
The Psalm
I will walk in the
presence of the Lord
in the land of the
living.
The Psalm
They surrounded me, the snares of
death, with the anguish of the
tomb; they caught me, sorrow
and distress. I called on the
Lord’s name. O Lord, my God,
deliver me!
The Psalm
I will walk in the
presence of the Lord
in the land of the
living.
The Psalm
How gracious is the Lord, and just;
our God has compassion. The
Lord protects the simple hearts; I
was helpless so he saved me.
The Psalm
I will walk in the
presence of the Lord
in the land of the
living.
The Psalm
He has kept my soul from death,
my eyes from tears and my feet
from stumbling. I will walk in the
presence of the Lord in the land
of the living.
The Psalm
I will walk in the
presence of the Lord
in the land of the
living.
The Psalm
The Second
Reading
A reading from the letter of
St James
Take the case, my brothers,
of someone who has never
done a single good act but
claims that he has faith. Will
that faith save him? If one of
the brothers or one of the
sisters is in need of clothes
and has not enough food to
live on, and one of you says
to them, ‘I wish you well;
keep yourself warm and eat
plenty’, without giving them
these bare necessities of life,
then what good is that? Faith
is like that: if good works do
not go with it, it is quite
dead.
This is the way to talk to
people of that kind: ‘You say
you have faith and I have
good deeds; I will prove to
you that I have faith by
showing you my good deeds
– now you prove to me that
you have faith without any
good deeds to show.’
The Word
of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
Alleluia, alleluia!
I am the Way, the Truth and the
Life, says the Lord; No one can
come to the Father except
through me.
Alleluia!
Gospel Acclamation
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
A Reading from the holy Gospel
according to Mark.
Glory to you, O Lord.
The Gospel
Jesus and his disciples left
for the villages round
Caesarea Philippi. On the
way he put this question to
his disciples, ‘Who do people
say I am?’ And they told him.
‘John the Baptist,’ they said
‘others Elijah; others again,
one of the prophets.’ ‘But
you,’ he asked ‘who do you
say I am?’ Peter spoke up
and said to him, ‘You are the
Christ.’ And he gave them
strict orders not to tell
anyone about him.
And he began to teach them
that the Son of Man was
destined to suffer grievously,
to be rejected by the elders
and the chief priests and the
scribes, and to be put to
death, and after three days to
rise again; and he said all
this quite openly. Then,
taking him aside, Peter
started to remonstrate with
him. But, turning and seeing
his disciples, he rebuked
Peter and said to him, ‘Get
behind me, Satan! Because
the way you think is not
God’s way but man’s.’
He called the people and his
disciples to him and said, ‘If
anyone wants to be a
follower of mine, let him
renounce himself and take
up his cross and follow me.
For anyone who wants to
save his life will lose it; but
anyone who loses his life for
my sake, and for the sake of
the gospel, will save it.’
The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you, Lord
Jesus Christ.
I believe in God, the Father
almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only
Son, our Lord,
The Apostles’
who was conceived by the
Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
The Apostles’
was crucified, died and was
buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again
from the dead;
The Apostles’
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right
hand of God the Father
almighty;
The Apostles’
from there he will come to
judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
The Apostles’
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen
The Apostles’
Prayer of the Faithful
Celebrant: The Lord hears the cry
of our appeal and comes to our
help, so with confidence we make
our prayers on behalf of those in
need.
1. We pray for our Holy Father, Pope
Francis, and for all who hold positions of
authority within the Church; that as true
successors of Peter they may blend
gentleness with strength in a spirit of
genuine compassion towards others. Lord
hear us.
All: Lord graciously hear us
2. For the Queen: that as Her Majesty
surpasses the reigns of all who were before
her as ruler of these lands, she may be
strengthened in her heart to continue to
serve her people and we, after her example,
may serve each other and seek the common
good of all. Lord hear us.
All: Lord graciously hear us
3. We pray for those persecuted for
their religion, especially those held in
prisons; we ask the Lord to give strength
and guidance to organisations that work
to challenge governments which abuse
human rights. Lord hear us.
All: Lord graciously hear us
4. Let us pray for the poor and
disadvantaged, especially children,
and for agencies such as social
services, food banks and refuges
that work to help them. Lord hear us.
All: Lord graciously hear us
5. We commend to your fatherly
goodness all those who are anxious or
distressed in mind or body; comfort and
relieve them in their need, give them
patience in their sufferings, and bring
good out of their troubles. Lord hear us.
All: Lord graciously hear us
6. We ask God’s mercy for all those
who have died, that they will enjoy
forever the glories of heaven. We pray
also for those who mourn, that they may
be comforted.
Lord hear us.
All: Lord graciously hear us
7. We pray in silence for all our
needs, especially those which are
mentioned in our Intentions Book.
Mary, our Mother, you were the
first to recognise that your Son
was also the Son of the living
God. We ask that you take our
prayers to Him, as we say:
Hail Mary, full of grace. The
Lord is with thee. Blessed
art thou among
women, and blessed
is the fruit of
thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother
of God, pray for us
sinners, now and
at the hour of our
death. Amen.
Celebrant: Eternal Father, you grant
our petitions whenever we call on
your name. Guide us throughout this
life, until the day that we walk in your
presence. We make this prayer
through Christ Our Lord, Amen
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
for through your goodness we have
received the bread we offer you: fruit of
the earth and work of human hands, it will
become for us the bread of life.
All: Blessed be God for ever.

Pray, my brothers and sisters,
that my sacrifice and yours may
be acceptable to God, the
almighty Father.
All: May the Lord accept the
sacrifice at your hands, for
the praise and glory of his
name, for our good, and the
good of all his holy Church.
Look with favour on our supplications, O
Lord, and in your kindness accept these,
your servants’ offerings, that what each has
offered to the honour of your name may
serve the salvation of all. Through Christ
our Lord.
All: Amen
Prayer over the offerings
The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
All: It is right and just.Preface Dialogue
Holy, holy, holy Lord God of
hosts, Heaven and earth are full
of your glory. Hosanna in the
highest. Blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
When we eat this Bread
and drink this Cup, we
proclaim your death, O
Lord, until you come
again.
Memorial Acclamation
Through him, and with him, and in
him, O God, almighty Father, in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and
honour is yours, for ever and ever.
All: Amen!
Our Father who art
in heaven, hallowed
be thy name, thy
kingdom come, thy
will be done,
on earth as it is in
heaven.
Give us this day our
daily bread.
And forgive us our
trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass
against us.
And lead us
not into
temptation,
but deliver us
from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every
evil, graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy, we may
be always free from sin and safe from
all distress, and useless worry, as we
await the blessed hope and the coming
of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
All: For the kingdom, the
power, and the glory are
yours, now and forever.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said
to your Apostles, Peace I
leave you, my peace I give
you, look not on our sins, but
on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her
peace and unity in
accordance with your will.
Who live and reign for ever
and ever. Amen

with you always.
And with your
spirit.
