THEME: THE SANCTUARY
TEXT: PSALMS 77:13
SONG 430: JUDGMENT HAS SET
THE VEIL
“Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our
God?
There are many precious truths contained in the Word of God,
but it is "PRESENT TRUTH" that the flock needs now. I have
seen the danger of the messengers running off from the
important points of present truth, to dwell upon subjects that are
not calculated to unite the flock and sanctify the soul. Satan will
here take every possible advantage to injure the cause. {EW 63.1}
But such subjects as the SANCTUARY, in connection with the
2300 days, the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, are
perfectly calculated to explain the past Advent movement and
show what our present position is, establish the faith of the
doubting, and give certainty to the glorious future. These, I have
frequently seen, were the principal subjects on which the
messengers should dwell. {EW 63.2}
Exodus 26: 31-33
-And thou shalt make a veil of blue, and
purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen of
cunning work: with cherubims shall it be
made: (32)And thou shalt hang it upon four
pillars of shittim wood overlaid with gold:
their hooks shall be of gold, upon the four
sockets of silver. (33)And thou shalt hang up
the veil under the taches, that thou mayest
bring in thither within the veil the ark of the
testimony: and the veil shall divide unto you
between the holy place and the most holy.
Evangelism pg 221
-“The correct understanding of the
ministration in the heavenly sanctuary is the
foundation of our faith.”
5T520
- “We are in the great day of atonement, and
the sacred work of Christ for the people of
God that is going on at the present time in the
heavenly sanctuary should be our constant
study.”
GC 488,489
- “The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative judgment should be
clearly understood by the people of God. All need a knowledge for
themselves of the position and work of their great High Priest.
Otherwise it will be impossible for them to exercise the faith which is
essential at this time or to occupy the position which God designs them to
fill. Every individual has a soul to save or to lose….
All who have received the light upon these subjects are to bear testimony of
the great truths which God has committed to them. The sanctuary in heaven
is the very center of Christ's work in behalf of men. It concerns every soul
living upon the earth. It opens to view the plan of redemption, bringing us
down to the very close of time and revealing the triumphant issue of the
contest between righteousness and sin. It is of the utmost importance that
all should thoroughly investigate these subjects and be able to give an
answer to everyone that asketh them a reason of the hope that is in them.
The intercession of Christ in man's behalf in the sanctuary above is as
essential to the plan of salvation as was His death upon the cross. By
His death He began that work which after His resurrection He ascended to
complete in heaven. We must by faith enter within the veil, "whither the
forerunner is for us entered." Hebrews 6:20.
There were two veils in the sanctuary. One was at
the entrance to the Holy Place and the other was at
the entrance to the Most Holy Place.
Hebrews 9:1
- Then verily the first covenant had also
ordinances of divine service, and a worldly
sanctuary.(2)For there was a tabernacle made;
the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the
table, and the showbread; which is called the
sanctuary. (3)And after the second veil, the
tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
Early Writings pg 32
“The Lord gave me the following view in 1847, while the brethren
were assembled on the Sabbath, at Topsham, Maine. We felt an
unusual spirit of prayer. And as we prayed the Holy Ghost fell
upon us. We were very happy. Soon I was lost to earthly things
and was wrapped in a vision of God's glory. I saw an angel flying
swiftly to me. He quickly carried me from the earth to the Holy
City. In the city I saw a temple, which I entered. I passed through
a door before I came to the first veil. This veil was raised, and I
passed into the holy place. Here I saw the altar of incense, the
candlestick with seven lamps, and the table on which was the
showbread. After viewing the glory of the holy, Jesus raised the
second veil and I passed into the holy of holies.”
AN ILLUSTRATION OF THE TWO VEILS…
We are now going to
look at seven things
pertaining to the inner
Veil.
THESE ARE:
1. Its Meaning
2. Its Colors
3. Its Material
4. Its Cherubims

7. Its Rending
1. ITS
MEANING
1. ITS MEANING
•Hebrews 10:20-
By a new and living way,
which he hath consecrated
for us, through the veil, that
is to say, His flesh;
1. ITS MEANING
1.It symbolized the humanity of Christ, the
Son of God incarnate.
2. One side seen by men (the priests
ministering in the Holy Place) and the other
side seen only by God (from the Shekinah
glory at the mercy seat). Christ covered His
Divinity with humanity so that we could be
able to behold Him.
1. ITS MEANING
3.Christ was 100% man and 100%
God.
4.None could behold God face to
face, it’s the only begotten Son
that could do that on our behalf
and thus we need to be hid in
Christ when we come before God

And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look
upon it, and remember all the commandments of
the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after
your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use
to go a whoring:
That ye may remember, and do all My

2. ITS COLORS
Psalms 97:6
- The heavens (which are
blue in color) declare His
righteousness (God’s
Law), and all the people
see his glory.
2. ITS COLORS
GC 639 (1911 edition)
- While these words of holy trust ascend to God, the clouds sweep
back, and the starry heavens are seen, unspeakably glorious in
contrast with the black and angry firmament on either side. The
glory of the celestial city streams from the gates ajar. Then there
appears against the sky a hand holding two tables of stone folded
together. Says the prophet: "The heavens shall declare His
righteousness: for God is judge Himself." Psalm 50:6. That holy
law, God's righteousness, that amid thunder and flame was
proclaimed from Sinai as the guide of life, is now revealed to men as
the rule of judgment. The hand opens the tables, and there are seen
the precepts of the Decalogue, traced as with a pen of fire. The
words are so plain that all can read them. Memory is aroused, the
darkness of superstition and heresy is swept from every mind, and
God's ten words, brief, comprehensive, and authoritative , are
presented to the view of all the inhabitants of the earth.

When starting a journey, the Israelites were to follow the
following requirements:
Numbers 4:4:5-16
4:5 And when the camp setteth forward, Aaron
shall come, and his sons, and they shall take
down the covering veil, and cover the ark of
testimony with it:
4:6 And shall put thereon the covering of
badgers' skins, and shall spread over it a cloth
wholly of blue, and shall put in the staves
thereof.

scarlet, and cover the same with a covering of badgers'

Esther 1:2-6
- That in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom,
which was in Shushan the palace,(3)In the third year of his reign, he made a feast
unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles
and princes of the provinces, being before him: (4)When he showed the riches of
his glorious kingdom and the honor of his excellent majesty many days, even and
hundred and fourscore days.(5)And when these days were expired, the king made a
feast unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great
and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace; (6)Where
were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple
to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, upon a
pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble.
Esther 8:15
- And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of
blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine
linen and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.

that were about their camels' necks.
Luke 16:19
- There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in
purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
2. ITS COLORS
Out of the above verses, we can
conclude that the color purple is
used to symbolize;
•Throne/Kingdom
•King/Ruler
•Authority
•Dominion
•Power
•Riches
2. ITS COLORS
In mockery, the soldiers put a purple robe on
Christ…
John 19:2
-And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and
put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple
robe…
Mark 15:17, 18
- And they clothed him with purple, and platted a
crown of thorns, and put it about His head,
And began to salute Him, Hail, King of the
Jews!
2. ITS COLORS
The Roman Catholic Church Power is said to be clothed in purple…
Revelation 17:3-4
-So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit
upon a scarlet coloured beast,
full of names of blasphemy, having seven
heads and ten horns. And the woman was
arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and
decked with gold and precious stones and
pearls, having a golden cup in her hand
full of abominations and filthiness of her
fornication…
Revelation 18:16
-And saying, Alas, alas, that great city,
that was clothed in fine linen, and purple,
and scarlet, and decked with gold, and
precious stones, and pearls!
DA 414
- "The head of every man is Christ." God, who put all things under
the Savior's feet, "gave Him to be the head over all things to the
church, which is His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all." 1
Corinthians 11:3; Ephesians 1:22, 23. The church is built upon
Christ as its foundation; it is to obey Christ as its head. It is not to
depend upon man, or be controlled by man. Many claim that a
position of trust in the church gives them authority to dictate what
other men shall believe and what they shall do. This claim God does
not sanction. The Saviour declares, "All ye are brethren." All are
exposed to temptation, and are liable to error. Upon no finite being
can we depend for guidance. The Rock of faith is the living presence
of Christ in the church. Upon this the weakest may depend, and those
who think themselves the strongest will prove to be the weakest,
unless they make Christ their efficiency. "Cursed be the man that
trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm." The Lord "is the Rock,
His work is perfect." "Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him."
Jeremiah 17:5; Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 2:12.

them with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put them on a bar:
And they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a

2. ITS COLORS
Red symbolizes LIFE, and
in this case it symbolizes
the Life of Christ and how
it was given to save us and
cleanse us. Remember we
must all wash our robes in
the blood of the Lamb…..
2. ITS COLORS
Leviticus 14:49-52
- And he shall take to cleanse the house two birds, and cedar wood, and
scarlet, and hyssop:
And he shall kill the one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running
water: And he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet,
and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird, and in the
running water, and sprinkle the house seven times: And he shall cleanse
the house with the blood of the bird, and with the running water, and with
the living bird, and with the cedar wood, and with the hyssop, and with the
scarlet:
Hebrews 9:19

Joshua 18-21

line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down

brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.
And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy
house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will
be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his
blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine
oath which thou hast made us to swear.
And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent
them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the
window.

- “The angels prostrated themselves at the feet of their
Commander and offered to become a sacrifice for man. But
an angel's life could not pay the debt; only He who created
man had power to redeem him. Yet the angels were to have
a part to act in the plan of redemption. Christ was to be
made "a little lower than the angels for the suffering of
death." Hebrews 2:9. As He should take human nature
upon Him, His strength would not be equal to theirs, and
they were to minister to Him, to strengthen and soothe
Him under His sufferings. They were also to be ministering
spirits, sent forth to minister for them who should be heirs
of salvation. Hebrews 1:14. They would guard the subjects of
grace from the power of evil angels and from the darkness
constantly thrown around them by Satan.”

that not unto themselves, but unto
us they did minister the things,

POSITION
5. ITS POSITION
•Exodus 26:32
And thou shalt
hang it….
5. ITS POSITION
If it was hanging, then
it means it was not
extending to the top of
the tabernacle…..there
was a space left at the
top
5. ITS POSITION
Patriarchs and Prophets pg 353
- “As the inner veil of the sanctuary did not extend to the
top of the building, the glory of God, which was manifested
above the mercy seat, was partially visible from the first
apartment. When the priest offered incense before the
Lord, he looked toward the ark; and as the cloud of incense
arose, the divine glory descended upon the mercy seat and
filled the most holy place, and often so filled both
apartments that the priest was obliged to retire to the door
of the tabernacle. As in that typical service the priest
looked by faith to the mercy seat which he could not see, so
the people of God are now to direct their prayers to Christ,
their great High Priest, who, unseen by human vision, is
pleading in their behalf in the sanctuary above…
5. ITS POSITION
….The incense, ascending with the prayers of Israel,
represents the merits and intercession of Christ, His
perfect righteousness, which through faith is imputed to
His people, and which can alone make the worship of
sinful beings acceptable to God. Before the veil of the
most holy place was an altar of perpetual intercession,
before the holy, an altar of continual atonement. By
blood and by incense God was to be approached--
symbols pointing to the great Mediator, through whom
sinners may approach Jehovah, and through whom
alone mercy and salvation can be granted to the
repentant, believing soul.”
5. ITS POSITION
The Story of Redemption pg 154
- “Within the second veil was placed
the ark of the testimony, and the
beautiful and rich curtain was drawn
before the sacred ark. This curtain did
not reach to the top of the building.
The glory of God, which was above the
mercy seat, could be seen from both
apartments, but in a much less degree
from the first apartment. “

What could
this
symbolize???
5. ITS POSITION
2 Corinthians 4:6
-For God, who commanded the light to
shine out of darkness, hath shined in
our hearts, to give the light of the
knowledge of the glory of God in the
face of Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 1:3
- Who being the brightness of His

5. ITS POSITION
That I May Know Him pg 131
- “The glory of God is His character. . . .
This character was revealed in the life of
Christ. That He might by His own
example condemn sin in the flesh, He took
upon Himself the likeness of sinful flesh.
Constantly He beheld the character of
God; constantly He revealed this character
to the world. Christ desires His followers
to reveal in their lives this same
character.”
5. ITS POSITION
Just as the Glory of God from the
second apartment (the Most holy
place) could faintly be seen from
the first apartment (Holy Place),
so the Divinity of Christ, though
clothed in humanity could
sometimes flush out and people
could see it..
5. ITS POSITION
Prophets and kings pg 712
- “Unwittingly they had pronounced
their own doom. Jesus looked upon
them, and under His searching gaze
they knew that He read the secrets of
their hearts. His divinity flashed out
before them with unmistakable power.
They saw in the husbandmen a picture
of themselves, and they involuntarily
exclaimed, "God forbid!" (COL 295)

staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold, that
the table may be borne with them.”

thereof. (11) And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold,
within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make

the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them.

Wood is perishable, that is, it can be
destroyed easily. But gold is not!
Therefore we see a unity of the
perishable with the imperishable.
A unity between God and Man

Ephesians 2:13-16
- But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes
were far off are made nigh by the blood of
Christ. (14)For he is our peace, who hath made
both one, and hath broken down the middle
wall of partition between us; (15)Having
abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law
of commandments contained in ordinances; for
to make in Himself of twain one new man, so
making peace; (16)And that he might reconcile
both unto God in one body by the cross, having
slain the enmity thereby:

In order for the wood to be used “IN” the sanctuary, it had
to be overlaid with gold.
This would make the Holy Place and Most Holy place to
shine since the gold could reflect back the light from the
candlestick and the light of the Shekinah Glory.
Therefore!
For man to reflect the Glory of God, he has to be
‘COVERED’ or else BE ‘IN’ CHRIST!

this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood,

In the bible Gold symbolizes Faith.
Jesus was held up by the faith He
had on His Father.
Never at one time did He depend
on Himself.
He depended on God 100% and
that was the secret of His success.
