-A story of Loyalty and Redemption
Ruth the
Moabitess
 Ruth lived in time of the Judges when
“everyone did what was right in his
own eyes.”
 Ruth 1:1, Jud. 21:25
 Ruth was from Moab
 A nation that was started by Lots and his
daughter incestuous relationship
(Gen.19:37.)
 Israel committed harlotry with Moabite
women and God sent a plague to kill
thousands of them (Num. 25:9)
 Yet these things did not define her. We
remember her as the woman who said
the greatest expression of love in the
Bible.
Ruth’s love
and loyalty
for Naomi
 Naomi and Ruth lost everything
(1:11-13, 19-21)
 Naomi was living in extreme sorrow and
bitterness
 Naomi tells her daughters-in-law to
leave
 Yet, Ruth clings to Naomi (1:15-18)
 This in not something she has to do
 They travel to Bethlehem, and Ruth
goes looking for food to feed Naomi
and herself
 Ruth comes to Boaz’s field to glean
 As Ruth eats with Boaz, she saves some
food back for Naomi (2:14)
Ruth and
Naomi’s
Redeemer
 Boaz gives credit to God for rewarding
Ruth’s kindness to Naomi (2:10-13)
 Boaz agrees to marry Ruth, being that
Ruth past husband was his relative.
(3:9)
 But there was a closer relative. Boaz first
had to check with him if he wanted to fulfil
his responsibility
 He gives Ruth more barley and goes into
town
 Naomi says that he “will not rest” until he
has figured this out. (3:18)
 Boaz redeems Naomi’s land and
marries Ruth. (3:4,8) (Lev. 25:25)
Ruth’s
Legacy
 Blessed be the Lord (4:14)
 Boaz restored Naomi and Ruth to
life. (4:15)
 Ruth was better to Naomi than 7
sons. (4:15)
 Naomi is not forgotten and
becomes a nurse to Obed, Boaz
and Ruth First born son.
 Obed fathers Jesse
 Jesse fathers David
 David will be the ancestor of both
Joseph and Mary
 Mary will have Jesus
