Psalm 1 17th July 2011

Psalm 1 contrasts the righteous and the wicked. The righteous do not follow the counsel of the wicked, delight in God's word, and are like trees that bear fruit. They will prosper in all they do. The wicked are like chaff that the wind blows away; they will not stand in God's judgment. The Lord watches over the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 11Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
Psalm 14 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

(2) Where They StandDoes not hang around with ungodly people.Keeping bad company will draw you away from God.
(3) Where They SitSitting with mockers means further step of involvement with a godless society.Mockers are those who:Mock at GodScoff at HimProfane His NameSwear at God
The RighteousDelight in the Word of God.Draw instruction from God’s Word. Tells us our destiny and purpose in life.Like a flourishing tree by the water’s edge – strong, healthy and always fruitful.Fruit of the Spirit – Galatians 5.
What You Do Will ProsperNOT promising successful career or financial fortune. Something greater.Many people waste their lives chasing after things of no lasting value.What you do will have lasting value, eternal significance.Your life will count in the Kingdom of God for all eternity.
The WickedPersons who:Ignore GodDo not acknowledge GodLive without God.Like chaff (useless part of the grain) to be burned up.Their lives are of no lasting value.Cannot stand with God’s people.
Two WaysGod watches over the Way of the Righteous. God knows the Righteous.God does NOT know the Way of the Wicked. God does NOT know the Wicked.
My Response
Prayer of RepentanceDear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I have been walking in the way of the wicked. I know that only You can save me, Jesus. I repent of all my sins and I ask you to wash away all my sins. I receive you as my Lord and Saviour. Change and transform me to be more like You. I ask that You give to me your Holy Spirit and I thank You that You have given me eternal life today. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen
