Proverbs 21:20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in
the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man
spendeth it up.
2
It is wisdom to save for future needs.
Don’t spend everything you have left over after
paying bills and buying necessities.
If you can only save $5.00 a payday, it will add up.
When we spend every dollar, it is gone forever.
Track your spending; see where your money goes.
3
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy
findeth life, righteousness, and honor.
4
If you live a life of righteousness and
mercy, it will come back to you.
Galatians 6 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also
reap.
If we grant mercy, we will receive mercy.
If we live right, we’ll be treated right.
5
22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and
casteth down the strength of the confidence
thereof.
Wisdom is always superior to physical strength.
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth
his soul from troubles.
Not every thought needs to be spoken.
We can overload ourselves with much talking.
It may seem cute or funny to
6
you, but maybe not to
everyone.

24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who
dealeth in proud wrath.
Some men are convinced that they are superior in
every way over all others.
They ridicule, put down, and stir up anger.
Psalm 147:6 (NIV) The LORD sustains the
humble but casts the wicked to the ground.
25-26 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his
hands refuse to labor. He coveteth greedily all the
day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
If you desire something, work for it.
Folks who want but do not have are in contrast to
8
the righteous who gives and spares not.
Luke 6 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you;
good measure, pressed down, and shaken together,
and running over, shall men give into your bosom.
For with the same measure that ye mete withal it
shall be measured to you again.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how
much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked
mind?
9
When holiness is pretended, but wickedness
intended, that especially is an abomination.
Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary.
Some people give for the
recognition; God honors it not.
Some give to try and bribe God; it won’t work.

28 A false witness shall perish: but the man that
heareth speaketh constantly.
(TLB) No one believes a liar, but everyone
respects the words of an honest man.
God will judge and punish all dishonesty.
You can easily fool me, but you can’t fool God.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the
upright, he directeth his way.
A wicked man won’t listen to reason. He
is stubbornly determined to be wrong.
But a righteous man directs his way
11
by the Word of God.
He walks in the steps God has ordered.

30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor
counsel against the LORD.
1 Corinthians 3 19-20 For the wisdom of this world
is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh
the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The
Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they
are vain.
Just humble yourself and do it God’s Way.
You don’t have a better idea.

31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle:
but safety is of the LORD.
We should make what preparations we can, but
ultimately all our trust must be in God.
Again and again in Scripture, God gave Israel
victory over vastly superior forces.
Sometimes outnumbered by thousands.
If He did it for them, He will do it for us.
We are His children, and He loves us.
