WHY DOES GOD WANTS
US TO READ HIS WORD?
If we want to get to know God, we need
to communicate with Him. We can talk to
Him through prayer and devotion.
WHAT IS YOUR SPIRITUAL
STATUS RIGHT NOW?
WHY READ THE BIBLE?
•Give Us Faith.
a. “Faith comes from hearing the message , and the message is
heard through the word about Christ”-Romans 10:17
b. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is
not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that
no one can boast”-Ephesians 2:8-9
WHY READ THE BIBLE?
•Encourage Us.
a. “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach
us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and
the encouragement they provide we might have hope”-Romans
15:4
WHY READ THE BIBLE?
•Equip Us.
a. “All Scripture……is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, so that the
servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every
good work”-2 Timothy 3:16-17
WHY READ THE BIBLE?
•Guide Us.
a. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light
to my path. ”-Psalm 119:105
IMPORTANCE OF YOUR
DEVOTION AND PRAYER
• Listening to the voice of our Lord Jesus Christ.
• Inspires the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s instructions.
• Prayer is our daily conversation to God; the Bible
provides revelation.
• Devotion is the secret of production.
MY QUIET TIME WITH GOD
1. DECIDE ON A TIME.
2. DECIDE ON A SOLITARY PLACE.
3. CHOOSE A BIBLE READING PLAN OR BIBLE STUDY.
4. SPEND TIME IN PRAYER.
5. SPEND TIME IN WORSHIP.
6. CONSIDER WRITING IN A JOURNAL.
7. COMMIT TO YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONAL PLAN. KEEPING YOUR COMMITMENT IS
THE HARDEST PART OF GETTING STARTED. DETERMINE IN YOUR HEART TO
STAY THE COURSE, EVEN WHEN YOU FAIL OR MISS A DAY.
8. YOU MUST HAVE A FOCUSED MIND AND BURNING DESIRE.
MY QUIET TIME WITH GOD
•Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place
•Mark 1:35, “Very early in the morning, while
it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house
and went off to a solitary place, where he
prayed”.
S.O.A.P
• S (Scripture): "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" ~Philippians 4:13
• O (Observation): There is nothing that I can't do with Christ living in me, because He gives me
strength for anything that comes my way.
• A (Application): Yesterday I was really doubting being able to accomplish the huge project I was
working on, but I need to remember that the Word of God does not lie, and it says that I can do ALL
things through Christ, and that means ALL things, even my project!
• P (Prayer): "Lord please forgive me for relying on my own strength when trying to accomplish things.
Ultimately I know that when I depend on myself I will be let down, and short circuit your strength and
power working in me. Help me to remember this verse when I'm tempted to doubt my abilities, and
help me to rely upon your strength. Help me to remember that you promised that I can do anything
with your help! In Jesus Name, Amen."
I.D.E.A• IDENTIFICATION. First we must identify the situation, problem, or sin. Use a story from the bible or a
personal experience to help bring your devotion to life. This is our opportunity to open the reader’s eyes and shine
light on what may or may not be going on in their lives and the world around them. Be sure to use a powerful
statement or question to really capture the readers attention.
• DIRECTION. You’ve identified the issue and captured the reader’s attention. Now it’s time to direct them to the
nourishing truth found in God’s word and show them what it says. In a friendly and compassionate manner, try to
answer these questions for our reader: What do the scriptures say about this issue? Does God provide specific
directions for us on how to handle the subject? What lesson can we learn?
• ENCOURAGEMENT. Now that we’ve identified the problem and pointed them to the seeds of truth in Gods
word, it’s time to instill hope and confidence in the readers heart. Does God’s word offer comfort about the issue?
Is there a promise in His word that our reader needs to be reminded of? Answering questions like these will
encourage and prepare our reader’s heart for the next step.
• APPLICATION. We want the truth and wisdom we’ve shared with our reader to take root and grow. Once our
reader’s heart has been prepared, it’s time to reinforce what God’s word says and remind them how it applies to
them. This can be done with a powerful closing statement or a challenging question to inspire the reader to want to
make a change. (If your reader were to only remember one piece of information from your devotion, what would
you want it to be? Or in other words, what’s the key point?)
