Our Great High Priest!
Heb 7:26-27 For such a High Priest was
fitting for us, who is holy, harmless,
undefiled, separate from sinners, and
has become higher than the heavens;
who does not need daily, as those high
priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for
His own sins and then for the people's,
for this He did once for all when He
offered up Himself.
Jesus Christ Our Great High Priest!
•As we get started this morning, we want to
first properly understand what a priest is and
what they did for the people!
•There were two keys roles that men had
during the Mosaic age when it came to God’s
interacting with man!
•Prophet = God would speak to them & then
they would speak to the people!
•Priest = the people would speak to the them
& then they would speak to God!
Who was the first priest in the Bible?
•If you thought Aaron, then you didn’t go back
far enough!
•If you get out a concordance you will find the
1st priest is not found in connecting with Moses,
but with Abram!
•Gen 14:18 Melchizedek king of Salem brought
out bread and wine: and he was priest of God
Most High.
•This is the order of priesthood Jesus would be
after!
•See Heb. 7:1-10!
Who are the priests of God today?
•Rev 1:6 and has made us kings and priests to His
God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion
forever and ever. Amen.
•Rev 5:10 And have made us kings and priests to
our God; And we shall reign on the earth.
•1Pet 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built
up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up
spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus
Christ.
•1Pet 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people ...
We are indeed priest, but Christ is
High Priest!
• What was the high priest able to do that the others
weren’t?
• Christ is “always” in the presence of the Father &
“always” there to intercede for us!
• Rom 8:34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ
who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even
at the right hand of God, who also makes
intercession for us.
• Heb 7:25 Therefore He is also able to save to the
uttermost those who come to God through Him, since
He always lives to make intercession for them.
•Heb 9:24 For Christ has not entered the holy places
made with hands, which are copies of the true, but
into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of
God for us;
•1 Jn 2:1 My little children, these things I write to
you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we
have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the
righteous.
•1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator
between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
•Heb 8:6 But now He has obtained a more excellent
ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better
covenant, which was established on better promises.
I. His Position!
•The entire book of Hebrews is an on going
argument for the superiority of Jesus!
•In chapter 7:1-8:5 we read of His priesthood
being after the order of Melchizedek and superior to
Aarons!
•Melchizedek was both “priest & king of the Most
High God!” and indeed Jesus is today!
•There has never been & there will never be one
greater than Jesus! (Heb. 1:1-4)
•He was the only one able to live this life and never
sin!
The only perfect person!
Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who
cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was
in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
• Remember in both Lamb & Lion, that Jesus is the
only one worthy, He is the only one in the right
position to help man!
• Php 2:9-11 Therefore God also has highly exalted
Him and given Him the name which is above every
name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should
bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and
of those under the earth, and that every tongue
should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory
of God the Father.
II. His Power!
• How many of you here consider yourself someone
of “power?” Do you believe you are an important
person?
• When we use the word power, we have in mind
one’s authority, the power to enforce!
• Mt 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them,
saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in
earth. (All power/authority!)
• Mt 28:20 "teaching them to observe all things
that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you
always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
(Observe all I command!)
Everyone is subject to His commands!
Weather we know it or not, weather we accept it
or not! He is in charge!
•Heb 8:1 Now this is the main point of the things we
are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is
seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty
in the heavens,
•Jesus is the Father’s “righ-hand man!”
•He is the one given the place of authority &
command!
•Joh 12:48 "He who rejects Me, and does not receive
My words, has that which judges him- -the word that
I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
III. His Pardon!
Heb 7:25 Therefore He is also able to save to the
uttermost those who come to God through Him,
since He always lives to make intercession for them.
•The only way to heaven, it through Jesus!
•John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the
truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through Me.
•Act 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for
there is no other name under heaven given among
men by which we must be saved."
•None of us can save ourselves, we are all in need of
the blood of Jesus! (1 Pet.1:19)
Sin brings death, but the Savior
brings life!
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift
of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
•When we sin we become guilty of death, but Jesus
has come to bring us life!
•2 Cor 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to
be sin for us, that we might become the
righteousness of God in Him.
•John 10:10 The thief does not come except to
steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that
they may have life, and that they may have it
more abundantly
Sin vs the Savior!
• Sin breaks!
• Isa 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened,
That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot
hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your
God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So
that He will not hear.
• Savior builds!
• Rev 1:5-6 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness,
the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings
of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from
our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and
priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and
dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Jesus paid the price we couldn’t pay!
And, now He is seated at the right-hand of the
Father interceding for us!
• It is indeed good to be a Christian! To be apart of the
priesthood of God, with Jesus Christ Himself as our
High Priest over us!
• We must never give up on God, because God has
never & will never give up on us!
• Heb 13:5-6 Let your conduct be without
covetousness; be content with such things as you
have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you
nor forsake you." So we may boldly say: "The LORD is
my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"
Conclusion:
•May each of us take the time to properly
understand who Jesus is to us!
•I would encourage each of you to take time
this week and read through the book of
Hebrews noting the “better promises, better
plan and better covenant!”
•If you are here and not yet a Christian, today
you can become one and allow Jesus to become
your High Priest!
•If you are a Christian, then I prayer we will
truly understand how blessed we are!
Our great hight priest
