Library information centre

The Papatoetoe East Primary School library promotes reading and information literacy skills. With help from the National Library, the library purchases books to support school-wide themes. Students post book reviews and learn how to search effectively online. Teachers receive professional development on technology tools and inquiry skills. The library hosts sessions to help students and teachers learn new digital skills.

Focus: generate questions for the wonderwall using nonfiction books /websites to find information skim and scan, take notes use ICT to present learning Space slideshow created by Yr 2 students. Space interactive poster created by Yr 6 students.
FOCUS: school wide theme – architecture past and present. Explore the work of Gaudi and how it changed over time. Investigate how Gaudi became a great architect and artist. Use nonfiction books and websites to locate information. Use a digital art programme to design a building in the style of Gaudi.
Professional development sessions for staff: E.g.  Blogging  Digital art  Digital cameras  Word  Powerpoint  Publisher  Inquiry  Library catalogue ‘Techie Brekkie’ sessions and after school sessions in the library information centre.
