MEASURES OF VARIABILITY
FOR UNGROUPED DATA
Grade 8 - MATHEMATICS
LEARNING COMPETENCIES
Define Range, Mean Deviation, and Standard
Deviation.
Find the range, variance and standard deviation.
Find the characteristics of set of data using the
measures of variability.
Draw conclusions from statistical data using the
measures of variability.
VARIABILITY
is a reflection of the individual differences between
the people and events being investigated.
MEASURES OF VARIABILITY
Describe how large the differences between
individuals are on a trait.
RANGE & STANDARD DEVIATION
The two frequently used measures of variability.
RANGE
a set of data is the difference between the highest
score (HS) and the lowest score (LS).
MEAN DEVIATION
is a measure of variability (or dispersion) in a data set
which represents the average distance of data points
from the mean.
