Endure to The End Stephanus Elia
Matthew 24:3-10 3 … "Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: " Take heed that no one deceives you.” 5 False messiahs (Hitler, Stalin, Kim Jong Il) 6-7 Wars and rumors of wars (100M killed in wars since 20th century, 42 current wars) 7 Famines (40-50K children died of malnutrition & diseases), Pestilences (HIV, Ebola, 100 types of cancer killed >5M/year), Earthquakes (1950-1991: 93 major killed 1.3M people)
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows . 9 Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. 10 And then many will be offended , will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold .
13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come .
Jude 1: 17But you must remember , beloved, the predictions which were made by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18They told you beforehand, In the last days there will be scoffers [who seek to gratify their own unholy desires], following after their own ungodly passions. 19It is these who are setting up distinctions and causing divisions--merely sensual, devoid of the [Holy] Spirit and destitute of any higher spiritual life.
20 But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit ; 21 Guard and keep yourselves in the love of God ; expect and patiently wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ which will bring you unto life eternal. 22 And refute [so as to] convict some who dispute with you, and on some have mercy who waver and doubt.
23 Strive to save others , snatching them out of the fire; on others take pity but with fear, loathing even the garment spotted by the flesh and polluted by their sensuality. 24 Now to Him Who is able to keep you without stumbling or slipping or falling, and to present you unblemished (blameless and faultless) before the presence of His glory in triumphant joy and exultation.
What must we do to endure to the end? Build Yourself Up On Faith Hebrews 11:1 (MSG) The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith , is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living.
Luke 6:46 "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? 47 I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."
The Power of Revelation “ Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rm 10:17 NKJV). “… Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Mat 4:4 NKJV) Physical body requires bread to live, spirit requires God’s Word to live. The importance of receiving God’s revelations through devotional time, sermons, teachings, etc.
The Power of Confession “ Hidup dan mati dikuasai lidah, siapa suka menggemakannya, akan memakan buahnya.” (Ams 18:21) “ A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it!” (James 3:5a MSG) Your confession will determine your conclusion. Ex: 12 spies to Canaan (only 2 made it) & Wall of Jericho, Zechariah.
The Power of Action “ Demikian juga halnya dengan iman: Jika iman itu tidak disertai perbuatan, maka iman itu pada hakekatnya adalah mati.” (Yak 2:17) Be the doer of the word or be someone who forget what he looks like after seeing on the mirror (Jam 2: 22-24) “ Obedience is better than sacrifice.” (1 Sam 15:22) Hear => Confess => Act Ul 28:1 = dengar baik suara Tuhan, lakukan dengan setia, segala berkat ini akan datang kepadamu
2. Pray in the Holy Spirit What does it mean to pray in the Holy Spirit? Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will .
How do we recognize God’s will? Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind , that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God . How do we renew our mind? Renew = replacing something previously there. Put off the old man, put on the new man (tanggalkan => kenakan)
3. Guard & Keep Yourself in God’s Love 1 John 4: 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another , God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us . Love is a conscious decision not a mere feelings.
4. Wait Patiently Patient is not popular nowadays. The current world we live in: Fast paced, time is money Age of information superhighway => internet Tech innovations & advancement: faster - better Every possibilities to enhance the speed & to reduce waiting time in everything Ex: Fast food, drive thru, instant food; mp3 vs CD vs Cassette, Microwave, Freeways, Email, digital cameras, Instant gratification. If you like it, JUST DO IT! No SELF CONTROL, No PATIENCE.
Psalm 37:9 … But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth. Every good & perfect gifts come from God, but we need to learn to wait upon the Lord! In context: wait for Jesus’ second coming patiently and proactively, do not grow weary, do not cave in.
5. Save Others Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “ How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” It’s our purpose/callng/duty to preach the gospel. Take your part, contribute your portion to win the remaining billions of people to the Lord. Remember, Jesus’ 2nd coming depend on those souls.
