JESUS Cleanses A leper
CLEANSING THE LEPER Marco Lafebre, LEARNING TO PROPHESY
In the Bible, leprosy refers to the different types of skin diseases, it also is symbolic of sin. The cleansing of the leper prophetically is an indication of the plan of God to cleanse all of mankind from sin. We will discuss the ritual of the cleansing of a leper and see how the elements used for the cleansing point out to Jesus Messiah. The Old Testament has a lot to say about this.
Leviticus 14:2 (NKJV) The sinner, the sick, must be brought to Jesus presence, our High Priest. 2 “This shall be the law of the [a]leper for the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought to the priest.
Our Compassionate High Priest Hebrews 4:14-16 (NKJV) 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Matthew8:2 (NKJV) • 2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
Leviticus 14:3 (NKJV) • 3 And the priest shall go out of the camp, and the priest shall examine him; and indeed, if the [a]leprosy is healed in the leper, The priest going outside the camp points out to Jesus Messiah being crucified outside the walls of Jerusalem
Leviticus 14:4 (NKJV) • 4 then the priest shall command to take for him who is to be cleansed two living and clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet, and hyssop.
THE TWO CLEAN BIRDS They point out to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah
THE cedar wood The wood points out to the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, Messiah
The scarlet The scarlet points out to the Messiah’s suffering
The hyssop Hyssop points out to faith
Psalm 51:7 (NKJV) • 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. King David exercises his faith and claims to be cleansed with hyssop. His faith is shown because hyssop was used in the application of the blood.
Leviticus 14:5-6 (NIV) 5 Then the priest shall order that one of the birds be killed over fresh water in a clay pot. 6 He is then to take the live bird and dip it, together with the cedar wood, the scarlet yarn and the hyssop, into the blood of the bird that was killed over the fresh water. This points out to Jesus Christ shedding his blood in an earthen vessel, his human body. The earthen vessel was with water in it, symbolizing cleansing by the word. The blood of he killed bird was received in the vessel containing the water. The living bird, together with, Christ’s cross, his suffering and faith, were dipped into the mixture of blood and water.
Water symbolizes the Word of God. His Word Sanctify us. His Word Cleanse us. Therefore, the importance of reading the word, meditating in it, memorizing it, and even personalizing it and claiming its benefits. • Ephesians 5:26 (NKJV) • 26 that He might [a]sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
• We know that seven symbolizes, complete, full, total, finish. • So then in here the ritual to cleansing the leper is pointing to a total complete cleansing. • The living bird is pointing out to Jesus resurrection • Leviticus 14:7 (NKJV) • 7 And he shall sprinkle it seven times on him who is to be cleansed from the leprosy, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose in the open field.
• Colossians 2:16-17 (NKJV) • 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a [a]festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the [b]substance is of Christ. • Remember that Jesus said that Moses and the prophets spoke of Him. • All the prophetic acts and things mentioned in the OT are bud a shadow of things to come, they were pointing to Messiah.
• Just as in the case of the leper, when a sinner is purified by Christ’s blood, he is ready to enter God’s Kingdom • Leviticus14:8 (NKJV) • 8 He who is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean. After that he shall come into the camp, and shall stay outside his tent seven days.

• Matthew27:29-30 (NKJV) • 29 When they had [a]twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. • Healing of mental head problems.
• Matthew27:26 (NKJV) • 26 Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had [a]scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified. • We can be free of any kind of heavy bondages. • We can be free from wrong accusations.
• Freedom from oppression. • Hands and arms-related problems. • Psalm22:16 (NKJV) • 16 For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They[a] pierced My hands and My feet;
