SANCTUARY
THE PLAN OF
REDEMPTION
 Through nature, through types and symbols,
through patriarchs and prophets, God had
SPOKEN to the world. DA 34
 1ST BOOK-The Creation. Job 12:7-10
 Among the heathen are those who worship God
ignorantly, those to whom the light is never
brought by human instrumentality, yet they will
not perish. Though ignorant of the written law of
God, they have heard His VOICE speaking to them
in nature, and have done the things that the law
required. Their works are evidence that the Holy
Spirit has touched their hearts, and they are
recognized as the children of God. {DA 638.2}
 2ND BOOK-The Sanctuary
 1sam 3:3 And ere the lamp of God went out
in the temple of the LORD, where the ark
of God [was], and Samuel was laid down
[to sleep]; That the LORD called Samuel:
and he answered, Here [am] I.
 Those who received the light concerning the
sanctuary and the immutability of the law of
God, were filled with joy and wonder, as they
saw the beauty and harmony of the system of
truth that opened to their understanding.
{GC88 454.1}
 3rd BOOK-The BIBLE
 John17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy
word is truth.
 5BC 1147 >All whom God is leading will
manifest a high regard for the Scriptures in
which His VOICE is heard.
Where in the Bible do we first meet
the term "sanctuary"?
• Ex. 15:17-"Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them
in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O
LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in
the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have
established."
• The word 'sanctuary' occurs in the Old and New
Testaments one hundred and forty-four times – 144
times DANIEL AND REVELATION PAGE 209 by
Uriah smith
Importance of sanctuary
• Says the great deceiver:”We must watch those
who are calling the attention of the people to
the Sabbath of Jehovah; they will lead many
to see the claims of the law of God; and the
same light which reveals the true Sabbath,
reveals also the ministration of Christ in the
heavenly sanctuary, and shows that the last
work for man’s salvation is now going forward.
Hold the minds of the people in darkness
till that work is ended, and we shall secure the
world and the church also.”{4SP 337.2}
SANCTUARY SHOWS THE PLAN OF SALVATION
SALVATION
SANCTUARY SHOWS THE PLAN OF
SALVATION
• The sanctuary in heaven is the very center of
Christ's work in behalf of men. It concerns
every soul living upon the earth. It opens to
view the plan of redemption, bringing us
down to the very close of time and revealing the
triumphant issue of the contest between
righteousness and sin. It is of the utmost
importance that all should thoroughly
investigate these subjects GC488
Sanctuary as a magnet of all truth
• "There is no other subject which so fully
unites all parts of the Sacred Volume
into one harmonious whole as this
subject of the sanctuary. Every gospel
truth centers in the sanctuary service,
and radiates from it like the rays of the
sun." J. L. Shuler, in "The Great
Judgment Day," P. 51.
IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING THE
SANCTUARY MESSAGE
 The Foundation of Our Faith.-The correct understanding of the
ministration in the heavenly sanctuary is the foundation of our
faith. EV 221
 The subject of the sanctuary was the key which unlocked the
mystery of the disappointment of 1844. It opened to view a
complete system of truth, connected and harmonious, showing
that God's hand had directed the great advent movement and
revealing present duty as it brought to light the position and
work of His people...... Light from the sanctuary illumined the
past, the present, and the future . GC 423

them a reason of the hope that is in them. GC488
Why a Sanctuary
What? know ye not that your body is the
temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are not your
own? (1 Corinthians 6:19)
From eternal ages it was God's purpose that
every created being, from the bright and holy
seraph to man, should be a temple for the
indwelling of the Creator. Because of
sin, humanity ceased to be a temple for
God. {DA 161.1}
Thus the sanctuary not only illuminates truth, but
it reveals error
 But such subjects as the sanctuary, in
connection with the 2300 days, the
commandments of God and the faith of Jesus,
are perfectly calculated to explain the past
Advent movement and show what our present
position is, establish the faith of the doubting,
and give certainty to the glorious future. These, I
have frequently seen, were the principal subjects
on which the messengers should dwell. {EW
63.2}
For what purpose was the sanctuary
to be erected?
1. For God to dwell with us
• EXO 25:8 “Let them make me a sanctuary; that
I may dwell among them”
2. For God to Sanctify us
• EZEKIEL 37:28 “And the heathen shall know
that I the LORD do sanctify Israel, when my
sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for
evermore.”
3. To show us God’s way
. Psalms 77:13 “Thy way, O God, [is] in the
sanctuary: who [is so] great a God as [our] God?”
4.It enables us to understand prophecy :
• ‘’ The whole system of types and symbols was a
compacted prophecy of the gospel, a
presentation in which were bound up the
promises of redemption.” {AA 14.1}
• “As a people, we should be earnest students of
prophecy; we should not rest until we become
intelligent in regard to the subject of the
sanctuary, which is brought out in the visions of
Daniel and John”.{EV 222}
5.THE SANCTUARY-THE GOSPEL IN THE
OLD TESTAMENT
• Heb. 3:16; 4:2,6, “Unto us was the gospel
preached, as well as unto them," or, "the
gospel was first preached unto them“
• The Gospel was preached by Moses by means
of the sanctuary and its services
• Luke 24:27- "beginning at Moses ... He
expounded unto them the things concerning
Himself."
• Luke 24:44"All things must be fulfilled, which
were written in the law of Moses…concerning
Me."
• In the Book of Hebrews we are told that the
tabernacle, and all its services, were “patterns of
things in the heavens” (Hebrews 9:23).
• The physical objects associated with the earthly
sanctuary were “figures of the true” (Hebrews
9:24) — the “shadow of heavenly things”
(Hebrews 8:5).
• The temple represented God’s home on earth. Of
course, God does not literally dwell in temples
made with hands (Acts 17:24), and though the
temple at Jerusalem was a true image of the
heavenly, in Hebrews it is made abundantly clear
that the earthly sanctuary of God is “not the very
image of the [heavenly] things” (Hebrews 10:1).
It was only “figures of the true” (Hebrews 9:24). 3
• In order that the earthly Tabernacle might
represent the heavenly, it must be perfect in
all its parts and it must be, in the smallest
detail, like the pattern in the heavens” (RH 11
Jan 1912) (Hebrews 8:5)
• Moses made the earthly sanctuary after a
pattern which was shown him. Paul teaches
that that pattern was the true sanctuary
which is in heaven. And John testifies that he
saw it in heaven. {GC 415.1}
• When Moses was about to build the sanctuary as
a dwelling place for God, he was directed to make
all things according to the pattern shown him in
the mount. Moses was full of zeal to do God's
work; the most talented, skillful men were at
hand to carry out his suggestions. Yet he was not
to make a bell, a pomegranate, a tassel, a fringe,
a curtain, or any vessel of the sanctuary, except
according to the pattern shown him. God called
him into the mount, and revealed to him the
heavenly things. The Lord covered him with His
own glory, that he might see the pattern, and
according to it all things were made. DA 208
History of the Sanctuary
by Steve Haskell
The history of the typical service, of
which the earthly tabernacle was a
visible representation, began at the
gate of the garden of Eden, where our
first parents brought their offerings
and presented them before the Lord.
Abel showed his faith in the promised
Saviour by bringing an animal
Before the people of God went into
Egypt, their worship was simple. The
patriarchs lived near the Lord, They
needed only a rough altar and an
innocent lamb to connect their faith
with the infinite Sin-bearer.
 As the patriarchs journeyed from place to place,
they set up their altars and offered their sacrifices,
and God drew near to them, often showing His
acceptance of their offerings by sending fire from
heaven to consume the sacrifices.
 Of all the sacrifices recorded in the book
of Genesis, none comes so near the
great antitypical offering as the one
required of Abraham when God called
him to offer his only son. The test of
faith was not simply in the fact that Isaac
was his only legitimate son, but Abraham
understood that through Isaac's posterity
the long-promised Messiah was to come;
and in offering Isaac, Abraham was
cutting off his only hope of salvation, as
well as that of the world.
ABRAHAM SACRIFICES ISAAC
THE GREATEST TESTThe Lord chose the exact spot for the
offering of Isaac. He said to Abraham,
"Get thee into the land of Moriah;
and offer him there for a burnt-
offering upon one of the mountains
which I will tell thee of." As Abraham
and Isaac went on that memorable
journey, they were directed by the
Lord to Mount Moriah; and when
they came to the place, Abraham
built an altar and bound Isaac upon
it, ready to sacrifice him; but the Lord
stayed his hand.
 For more than four hundred years after the
children of Israel entered the promised land, Satan
held this place. It was a stronghold of the enemy in
the midst of Israel.
 The sanctuary was completed, while the Israelites
were encamped at Sinai, and during their forty
years' wanderings in the wilderness they carried it
with them. When they reached the promised land,
it was set up in Gilgal for a few years. Joshua 5:10
 ‘And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal and
kept the passover..’
.
 After staying in Gilgal a few years it was then
removed to Shiloh, Joshua 18:1; ‘And the whole
congregation of the children of Israel assembled
together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of
the congregation there’ Joshua 19:51 ‘..which
Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and
the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the
children of Israel, divided for an inheritance by lot
in Shiloh before the LORD, at the door of the
tabernacle of the congregation. So they made an
end of dividing the country’.
 In Shiloh it remained for many years. When David was
fleeing from Saul, the tabernacle was in Nob,
 1 Samuel 21:1’ Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech
the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of
David, and said unto him, Why [art] thou alone, and
no man with thee?..
 Verse 4 - ‘And the priest answered David, and said,
[There is] no common bread under mine hand, but
there is hallowed bread;’
 Verse 6 – ‘So the priest gave him hallowed [bread]: for
there was no bread there but the showbread, that was
taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the
day when it was taken away’
 It was next set up in the high place at Gibeon.
 1 Chronicles 16:39 ‘And Zadok the priest, and his
brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the
LORD in the high place that [was] at Gibeon’,
 1 Chronicles 21:29 ‘For the tabernacle of the LORD,
which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar
of the burnt offering, [were] at that season in the
high place at Gibeon’
 For more than four hundred years after the children of
Israel entered the promised land, Satan held mount
Moriah. It was a stronghold of the enemy in the midst of
Israel.
 But it was finally captured by David, who made it the
capital of his kingdom; afterward Jerusalem was called
the "City of David."
 The threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, where the
angel of the Lord appeared to David, was on this
same spot. The prophet told David to erect an altar on
the threshing-floor, and there David made a special
consecration to the Lord
 David desired to build a house for the Lord; but on account
of his many wars the Lord directed that his son should
build the house. When Solomon was established on his
throne, he erected a magnificent structure, and dedicated
it to the Lord. God showed His acceptance by His glory
filling the temple. Solomon did not plan the temple
himself; God revealed the plan to David, as He had that of
the tabernacle to Moses. David was not to see it built, but
when he delivered the plan for the building to Solomon, he
said, "The Lord made me understand in writing by His
hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.“(verse 19)
 1 Chronicles 28:11-19 – (verse 12)And the pattern of all that
he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the
LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the
treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the
dedicated things
 A few years later the temple, which was
erected without sound of hammer, occupied
this same plot of land. 2Chronicles 3:1
‘Then Solomon began to built the house of
the LORD at Jerusalem in mount
Moriah.’God had conquered and He
designed the place should be hallowed by
His presence.
.
• The history of Solomon's temple is really a
history of the religious experience of the
children of Israel. When they departed from
the Lord, the temple was neglected, and
sometimes even suffered violence. It was
pillaged by Shishak, king of Egypt. 1 Kings
14:25,26
.
• At the instigation of Jehoiada it was repaired
by Jehoash, who himself afterward robbed it
of its treasures to propitiate the Syrians.
2 Kings 12:4-14
.
• Ahaz a little later not only spoiled it of its
treasures, but also defiled its holy precincts.
2 Kings 16:14,18
.
• Under the reign of the good king Hezekiah the temple
was purified and its worship restored; 2 Chronicles
29:3-35 but even Hezekiah stripped it of its treasures
to procure a treaty with the Assyrians. 2 Kings 21:4-7
• Again it was polluted by the idolatrous worship of
Manasseh 2 kings 21:4-7
• The "good king Josiah," when but a youth of eighteen
repaired and purified the temple, and again restored its
Worship 2Kings 22:3-7 .
• Finally on account of the unfaithfulness of the chosen
people of God, the, ho1y temple was burned to the
ground, and its treasures carried to Babylon.
..
• It was about nineteen years before the
rebuilding of the temple by Zerubbabel was
completed and the house dedicated with
great rejoicing Ezra 6:16-22
.
• Herod Spent forty-six years in repairing Zerubbabel's
temple, until in the days of Christ it waa magnificent
structure. John 2:20
• Then with a great noise the glorious veil of Herod's
magnificent building was rent from the top to the bottom,
as the Lord departed forever from His temple. Matthew
27:50,51
• Previous to this, the services were directed of God;
henceforth they were but a hollow mockery, for God had
left the sanctuary. Matthew 23:37,38
• The temple remained standing until 70 A. D., when it was
destroyed by the Romans. Today the sacred spot is covered
by a Mohammedan mosque
.
• Satan is guarding this spot vigilantly at the present
time, intending never again to relinquish his hold upon
it. But the time is coming when, in spite of Satan and
all his host, the same Saviour who was rejected in His
own temple shall place His feet upon the Mount of
Olives, Zech 14 :4-11 and the entire site of old
Jerusalem will be purified; then the New Jerusalem will
comedown from heaven and rest upon that spot made
sacred by the consecration of God's chosen people.
God's glorious heavenly temple will be upon Mount
Zion [Moriah], nevermore to fall into the hands of the
enemy. God says, "I. . . will set My sanctuary in the
midst of them forever more." {1914 SNH, CIS 35.2}

THE THIRD ANGEL CLOSES HIS
MESSAGE
• The third angel closes his message with these
words, Here is the patience of the saints; here are
they that keep the commandments of God, and
the faith of Jesus. As he repeated these words he
pointed to the heavenly Sanctuary. The minds of
all who embrace this message are directed to
the Most Holy place where Jesus stands before
the ark, making his final intercession for all
those for whom mercy still lingers, and for those
who have ignorantly broken the law of God. This
atonement is made for the righteous dead as well
as for the righteous living. 1 SG 162.1
THE 3 ANGELS MESSAGE PRESENTS
WISDOM TO HUMANITY
• FEAR GOD – PROV 9:10 -The fear of the
LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: and
the knowledge of the holy [is]
understanding.
• JOB 28:28- And unto man he said,
Behold, the fear of the Lord, that [is]
wisdom; and to depart from evil [is]
understanding.
TO BE WISE YOU HAVE TO
UNDERSTAND 2 THINGS
1. TIME
2. JUDGMENT
• ECC8:5 Whoso keepeth the commandment shall
feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart
discerneth both time and judgment.
• JERE 8:7 Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth
her appointed times; and the turtle and the
crane and the swallow observe the time of their
coming; but my people know not the judgment
of the LORD.
REV 14: 7
Saying with a
loud voice, Fear God,
and give glory to him;
for the hour of his
judgment
is come: and worship
him
that made heaven, and
earth, and the sea,
and the fountains
of waters.
TO BE WISE YOU MUST KNOW THE
TIME
• Unless we understand the importance of the
moments that are swiftly passing into eternity, and
make ready to stand in the great day of God, we shall
be unfaithful stewards. The watchman is to know the
time of night. Every thing is now clothed with a
solemnity that all who believe the truth for this time
should realize. They should act in reference to the day
of God. The judgments of God are about to fall upon
the world, and we need to be preparing for that great
day. {6T 407.1}
• Our time is precious. We have but few, very few
days of probation in which to make ready for the
future, immortal life. We have no time to spend in
haphazard movements. We should fear to skim the
surface of the word of God. (PAR 2)
TO BE WISE YOU MUST KNOW THE
TIME TO KNOW WHAT TO DO
1 CHRONICLES 12:32 And of the children of
Issachar, [which were men]that
had understanding of the times
, to know what Israel ought to do;
the heads of them [were]
two hundred; and all their
brethren [were] at their
commandment.
NO TIME TO SLEEP
• ROM 13: 11 “And that, knowing
the time, that now [it is] high
time to awake out of sleep: for
now [is] our salvation nearer than
when we believed.”
NO TIME TO SLEEP
• 1 T 263.1 “What shall I say to arouse the remnant
people of God? I was shown that dreadful scenes are
before us; Satan and his angels are bringing all their
powers to bear upon God's people. He knows that if
they sleep a little longer he is sure of them, for their
destruction is certain. I warn all who profess the name
of Christ to closely examine themselves and make full
and thorough confession of all their wrongs, that they
may go beforehand to judgment, and that the
recording angel may write pardon opposite their
names. My brother, my sister, if these precious
moments of mercy are not improved, you will be left
without excuse. If you make no special effort to
arouse, if you will not manifest zeal in repenting, these
golden moments will soon pass, and you will be
weighed in the balance and found wanting.”
INVESTIGATIVE JUDGEMENT
Investigative Judgment
• DAN 7:9-10 “I beheld till the thrones were cast down,
and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment [was]
white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure
wool: his throne [was like] the fiery flame, [and] his
wheels [as] burning fire.
• (10) A fiery stream issued and came forth from before
him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten
thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the
judgment was set, and the books were opened.
• 1 peter 4:17 –” For the time [is come] that judgment
must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin]
at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not
the gospel of God?”
NATURE OF THE JUDGEMENT
• THE judgment is spoken of by every Bible writer. It is
mentioned over a thousand times in the Sacred
Writings. It is more solemn than death; for death
separates friends only until the resurrection, but the
judgment separates them forever. No one can escape
it. The decisions of earthly courts may often be
changed by money and friends, and the guilty may be
released; but not so in the heavenly court. There
every one must meet the record of his own life. "Every
one . . . shall give account of himself to God." Earthly
parents have been known to sacrifice every thing they
possessed to save one child from the condemnation of
earthly courts.” 1914 SNH, CIS 230.2
NATURE OF THE JUDGEMENT
• There are many who have given themselves to Christ,
yet who see no opportunity of doing a large work or
making great sacrifices in His service. These may find
comfort in the thought that it is not necessarily the
martyr's self-surrender which is most acceptable to
God; it may not be the missionary who has daily faced
danger and death that stands highest in heaven's
records. The Christian who is such in his private life, in
the daily surrender of self, in sincerity of purpose and
purity of thought, in meekness under provocation, in
faith and piety, in fidelity in that which is least, the one
who in the home life represents the character of Christ-
-such a one may in the sight of God be more precious
than even the world-renowned missionary or martyr.
{COL 403.2}
EARTHLY COURT DECISION CAN BE
CHANGED BY BRIBE
.
• Our daily conversation, the words spoken without thought, we
may count of little worth, but "every idle word that men shall
speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment:
for by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou
shalt be condemned." 11 Words are the index of the heart,
"for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh."
The place of birth and the environment, everything that can in
any way influence the life record, is all recorded in the books of
heaven. 13 {1914 SNH, CIS 233.2}
• The most wonderful book of all the heavenly records that
pertain to humanity, is the book of life. This book contains the
names of all who have professed the name of Christ. To have
one's name recorded in that book is the highest honour given
to mortals. {1914 SNH, CIS 234.1}
• It is a source of great rejoicing to know that our names are
written in heaven, but the life must be in harmony with
heavenly things if our names are to remain with the
righteous.
A VERY SOLEMN VISION
• On the morning of October 23, 1879, about
two o'clock…….( AFTER OCT 22 THE
DISSAPPOINTMENT DAY BUT 35 YEARS
LATER)……… the Spirit of the Lord rested upon
me, and I beheld scenes in the coming
judgment. Language fails me in which to give
an adequate description of the things which
passed before me and of the effect they had
upon my mind. {4T 384.1}
E.G. WHITE SEEING AND WRITING
THE VISION
A VERY SOLEMN VISION
• The great day of the execution of God's judgment
seemed to have come. Ten thousand times ten
thousand were assembled before a large throne,
upon which was seated a person of majestic
appearance. Several books were before Him, and
upon the covers of each was written in letters of
gold, which seemed like a burning flame of fire:
"Ledger of Heaven." One of these books,
containing the names of those who claim to
believe the truth, was then opened. Immediately
I lost sight of the countless millions about the
throne, and only those who were professedly
children of the light and of the truth engaged my
attention… 4T 384.2
.
As these persons were named, one by one, and
their good deeds mentioned, their countenances
would light up with a holy joy that was reflected
in every direction. But this did not seem to rest
upon my mind with the greatest force. {4T 384.2}
Another book was opened, wherein were
recorded the sins of those who profess the truth.
Under the general heading of selfishness came
every other sin. There were also headings over
every column, and underneath these, opposite
each name, were recorded, in their respective
columns, the lesser sins. {4T 384.3}
THE VISION CONTINUES.
…..As I beheld I was filled with inexpressible anguish
and exclaimed: "Who can be saved? who will
stand justified before God? whose robes are
spotless? who are faultless in the sight of a pure
and holy God?" {4T 385.1}
As the Holy One upon the throne slowly turned
the leaves of the ledger, and His eyes rested for
a moment upon individuals, His glance seemed
to burn into their very souls, and at the same
moment every word and action of their lives
passed before their minds as clearly as though
traced before their vision in letters of fire.
Trembling seized them, and their faces turned
pale.
.
• A dread is upon every soul, lest he shall be
found among those who are wanting. Every
eye is riveted upon the face of the One upon
the throne; and as His solemn, searching eye
sweeps over that company, there is a quaking
of heart; for they are self-condemned without
one word being uttered. In anguish of soul
each declares his own guilt and with terrible
vividness sees that by sinning he has thrown
away the precious boon of eternal life. {4T
385.2}
VISION CONTINUES
…One class were registered as cumberers of the
ground... They had had warnings and privileges,
but they had not heeded nor improved them..
like the fig tree, they were cursed because they
bore no fruit, because they had not put to use
the talents entrusted to them. {4T 385.3}
This class had made self supreme, laboring only
for selfish interests….Had the cause of God been
dependent on their efforts, it would have
languished; for they not only withheld the means
lent them of God, but they withheld themselves.
.
• The names of all who profess the truth were
mentioned. Some were reproved for their
unbelief, others for having been slothful
servants. They had allowed others to do the work
in the Master's vineyard, and to bear the heaviest
responsibilities, while they were selfishly serving
their own temporal interests…… like Meroz, the
curse of God rested upon them for what they
had not done. They had loved that work which
would bring the greatest profit in this life; and
opposite their names in the ledger devoted to
good works there was a mournful blank. {4T
386.2} ….. Said the Judge: "All will be justified by
their faith and judged by their works."
BALANCES OF HEAVENLY SANCTUARY
…….The words spoken to these were most
solemn: "You are weighed in the balances, and
found wanting. You have neglected spiritual
responsibilities because of busy activity in
temporal matters,…. 4T 386.3
THE GREAT QUESTION BY CHRIST TO
ASK YOURSELF
…..The question was then asked: "Why have you not
washed your robes of character and made them white
in the blood of the Lamb? God sent His Son into the
world, not to condemn the world, but that through
Him it might be saved. My love for you has been more
self-denying than a mother's love. It was that I might
blot out your dark record of iniquity, and put the cup of
salvation to your lips, that I suffered the death of the
cross, bearing the weight and curse of your guilt. The
pangs of death, and the horrors of the darkness of the
tomb, I endured, that I might conquer him who had the
power of death, unbar the prison house, and open for
you the gates of life………. {4T 387.1}
.
…... I submitted to shame and agony because I loved you
with an infinite love, and would bring back my
wayward, wandering sheep to the paradise of God, to
the tree of life. That life of bliss which I purchased for
you at such a cost, you have disregarded. Shame,
reproach, and ignominy, such as your Master bore for
you, you have shunned. The privileges He died to bring
within your reach have not been appreciated. You
would not be partaker of His sufferings, and you
cannot now be partaker with Him of His glory." Then
were uttered these solemn words: "He that is unjust,
let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him
be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be
righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy
still." The book then closed, and the mantle fell from
the Person on the throne, revealing the terrible glory of
the Son of God {4T 387.1}
.
The scene then passed away,
and I found myself still
upon the earth,
inexpressibly grateful
that the day of God had
not yet come, and
that precious probationary
time is still granted us
in which to prepare for
eternity. {4T 387.2}
DON’T FORGET THE GREAT SNARE OF
SATAN
• Says the great deceiver: "We must watch those
who are calling the attention of the people to the
Sabbath of Jehovah; they will lead many to see
the claims of the law of God; and the same light
which reveals the true Sabbath, reveals also the
ministration of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary,
and shows that the last work for man's salvation
is now going forward. Hold the minds of the
people in darkness till that work is ended, and
we shall secure the world and the church also.

WORDS FROM HASKELL
• Sad indeed will be the state of
those who have started on the heavenly
way, but after experiencing the joy of
sins forgiven and the peace of God in
the heart, have returned to the world
and its follies. Their names have been written in the
book of life, and their cases will be presented, but
only to have the sentence, "Unfaithful," passed
upon them, and their names blotted forever from
the book of life. {1914 SNH, CIS 235.1}
LESSON FROM THE SANCTUARY
• 1)JESUS EARTHLY LIFE IN THE SANCTUARY
• 2) CHRISTIAN LIFE IN THE SANCTUARY
• 3)LORD’S PRAYER IN THE SANCTUARY
• 4)PARABLE OF THE SOWER THROUGH THE
SANCTUARY
• The book of life contains the names of all who have ever entered the service of God.
Jesus bade His disciples: "Rejoice, because your names are written in heaven." Luke
10:20. Paul speaks of his faithful fellow workers, "whose names are in the book of life."
Philippians 4:3. Daniel, looking down to "a time of trouble, such as never was," declares
that God's people shall be delivered, "everyone that shall be found written in the book."
And the revelator says that those only shall enter the city of God whose names "are
written in the Lamb's book of life." Daniel 12:1; Revelation 21:27. {GC 480.3}
• "A book of remembrance" is written before God, in which are recorded the good
deeds of "them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon His name." Malachi 3:16.
Their words of faith, their acts of love, are registered in heaven. Nehemiah refers to this
when he says: "Remember me, O my God, . . . and wipe not out my good deeds that I
have done for the house of my God." Nehemiah 13:14. In the book of God's
remembrance every deed of righteousness is immortalized. There every temptation
resisted, every evil overcome, every word of tender pity expressed, is faithfully
chronicled. And every act of sacrifice, every suffering and sorrow endured for Christ's
sake, is recorded. Says the psalmist: "Thou tellest my wanderings: put Thou my tears into
Thy bottle: are they not in Thy book?" Psalm 56:8. {GC 481.1}
• There is a record also of the sins of men. "For God shall bring every work into
judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." "Every idle
word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment." Says
the Saviour: "By thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be
condemned." Ecclesiastes 12:14; Matthew 12:36, 37. The secret purposes and motives
appear in the unerring register; for God "will bring to light the hidden things of darkness,
and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts." 1 Corinthians 4:5. "Behold, it is
written before Me, . . . your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith
the Lord." Isaiah 65:6, 7. {GC 481.2}
"No man knoweth the day nor the hour" was the argument most often brought
forward by rejecters of the advent faith. The scripture is: "Of that day and hour
knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven, but My Father only." Matthew 24:36.
A clear and harmonious explanation of this text was given by those who were
looking for the Lord, and the wrong use made of it by their opponents was clearly
shown. The words were spoken by Christ in that memorable conversation with His
disciples upon Olivet after He had for the last time departed from the temple. The
disciples had asked the question: "What shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the
end of the world?" Jesus gave them signs, and said: "When ye shall see all these
things, know that it is near, even at the doors." Verses 3, 33. One saying of the
Saviour must not be made to destroy another. Though no man knoweth the day nor
the hour of His coming, we are instructed and required to know when it is near. We
are further taught that to disregard His warning, and refuse or neglect to know when
His advent is near, will be as fatal for us as it was for those who lived in the days of
Noah not to know when the flood was coming. And the parable in the same chapter,
contrasting the faithful and the unfaithful servant, and giving the doom of him who
said in his heart, "My Lord delayeth His coming," shows in what light Christ will
regard and reward those whom He finds watching, and teaching His coming, and
those denying it. "Watch therefore," He says. "Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord
when He cometh shall find so doing." Verses 42, 46. "If therefore thou shalt not
watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come
upon thee." Revelation 3:3. {GC 370.2}
"Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex
certain of the church." The government of Judea was then in the hands of
Herod Agrippa, subject to Claudius, the Roman emperor. Herod also held
the position of tetrarch of Galilee. He was professedly a proselyte to the
Jewish faith, and apparently very zealous in carrying out the ceremonies
of the Jewish law. Desirous of obtaining the favor of the Jews, hoping
thus to make secure his offices and honors, he proceeded to carry out
their desires by persecuting the church of Christ, spoiling the houses and
goods of the believers, and imprisoning the leading members of the
church. He cast James, the brother of John, into prison, and sent an
executioner to kill him with the sword, as another Herod had caused the
prophet John to be beheaded. Seeing that the Jews were well pleased
with these efforts, he imprisoned Peter also. {AA 143.1} It was during
the Passover that these cruelties were practiced. While the Jews were
celebrating their deliverance from Egypt and pretending great zeal for the
law of God, they were at the same time transgressing every principle of
that law by persecuting and murdering the believers in Christ. {AA 144.1}
Christ's ascension to heaven was the signal that His
followers were to receive the promised blessing. For this
they were to wait before they entered upon their work.
When Christ passed within the heavenly gates, He was
enthroned amidst the adoration of the angels. As soon as
this ceremony was completed, the Holy Spirit descended
upon the disciples in rich currents, and Christ was indeed
glorified, even with the glory which He had with the
Father from all eternity. The Pentecostal outpouring was
Heaven's communication that the Redeemer's
inauguration was accomplished. According to His promise
He had sent the Holy Spirit from heaven to His followers
as a token that He had, as priest and king, received all
authority in heaven and on earth, and was the Anointed
One over His people. {AA 38.3}
THEN I SAW IN RELATION TO THE "DAILY" (DANIEL
8:12) THAT THE WORD "SACRIFICE" WAS SUPPLIED
BY MAN'S WISDOM, and does not belong to the
text, and that the Lord gave the correct view of it
to those who gave the judgment hour cry. When
union existed, before 1844, nearly all were united
on the correct view of the "daily"; but in the
confusion since 1844, other views have been
embraced, and darkness and confusion have
followed. Time has not been a test since 1844, and
it will never again be a test. {EW 74.2}
Zechariah's vision of Joshua and the Angel applies with peculiar
force to the experience of God's people in the closing up of the
great day of atonement. The remnant church will be brought into
great trial and distress. Those who keep the commandments of
God and the faith of Jesus will feel the ire of the dragon and his
hosts. Satan numbers the world as his subjects, he has gained
control of the apostate churches; but here is a little company that
are resisting his supremacy. If he could blot them from the earth,
his triumph would be complete. As he influenced the heathen
nations to destroy Israel, so in the near future he will stir up the
wicked powers of earth to destroy the people of God. All will be
required to render obedience to human edicts in violation of the
divine law. Those who will be true to God and to duty will be
menaced, denounced, and proscribed. They will "be betrayed both
by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends." {5T 472.2}
It is no time to be ashamed of our faith. We are a
spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. The whole
universe is looking with inexpressible interest to see the
closing work of the great controversy between Christ and
Satan. At such a time as this, just as the great work of
judging the living is to begin, shall we allow unsanctified
ambition to take possession of the heart? What can be of
any worth to us now except to be found loyal and true to
the God of heaven? What is there of any real value in this
world when we are on the very borders of the eternal
world? What education can we give to the students in
our schools that is so necessary as a knowledge of "What
saith the Scripture"? {5T 526.1}
Oh, that the people might know the time of their
visitation! There are many who have not yet heard
the testing truth for this time. There are many
with whom the Spirit of God is striving. The time
of God's destructive judgments is the time of
mercy for those who have had no opportunity to
learn what is truth. Tenderly will the Lord look
upon them. His heart of mercy is touched; His
hand is still stretched out to save, while the door
is closed to those who would not enter. {9T 97.2}

We know that there are many schools which afford
opportunities for education in the sciences, but we desire
something more than this. The science of true education
is the truth, which is to be so deeply impressed on the
soul that it cannot be obliterated by the error that
everywhere abounds. The third angel's message is truth,
and light, and power, and to present it so that right
impressions will be made upon hearts should be the
work of our schools as well as of our churches, of the
teacher as well as of the minister. Those who accept
positions as educators should prize more and more the
revealed will of God so plainly and strikingly presented in
Daniel and the Revelation. {6T 131.1}
Then let no more time be lost in dwelling on the many things which are not
essential and which have no bearing upon the present necessities of God's
people. Let no more time be lost in exalting men who know not the truth, "for
the time is at hand." There is no time now to fill the mind with theories of what
is popularly called "higher education." The time devoted to that which does not
tend to assimilate the soul to the likeness of Christ is so much time lost for
eternity. This we cannot afford, for every moment is freighted with eternal
interests. Now, when the great work of judging the living is about to begin, shall
we allow unsanctified ambition to take possession of the heart and lead us to
neglect the education required to meet the needs in this day of peril? {6T 130.1}
In every case the great decision is to be made whether we shall receive the
mark of the beast or his image, or the seal of the living God. And now, when we
are on the borders of the eternal world, what can be of so much value to us as to
be found loyal and true to the God of heaven? What is there that we should
prize above His truth and His law? What education can be given to the students
in our schools that is so necessary as a knowledge of "What saith the
Scriptures?" {6T 130.2}
By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in
violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect
herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism
shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of
the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to
clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence
of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every
principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and
republican government, and shall make provision for the
propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we
may know that the time has come for the marvelous
working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}
It is in a crisis that character is revealed. When the
earnest voice proclaimed at midnight, "Behold, the
bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him," and the
sleeping virgins were roused from their slumbers, it was
seen who had made preparation for the event. Both
parties were taken unawares; but one was prepared for
the emergency, and the other was found without
preparation. So now, a sudden and unlooked-for
calamity, something that brings the soul face to face with
death, will show whether there is any real faith in the
promises of God. It will show whether the soul is
sustained by grace. The great final test comes at the close
of human probation, when it will be too late for the
soul's need to be supplied. {COL 412.1}
