John 3 v3-6
3
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be
born?” 5
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom
of God. 6
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Born Again = Born from Above = Born of God
Unless we are born again, the things of God do not make sense.
The purposes of God, and His plan for mankind is foreign to those who are not born again
We cannot become subjects of this kingdom (enter), unless we are born again.
1 John 5 v1-6
1
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is
begotten of Him. 2
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3
For
this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 4
For whatever is born
of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5
Who is he who overcomes the
world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6
This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who
bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
Christ = Messiah = Anointed One = Son of God
Those who have faith (i.e. believe) that Jesus is the Son of God is born of God. This is not just knowledge, but rather a belief
from the heart. This kind of belief leads us to surrender ourselves to Christ.
Those who love Him keep His commandments.
Then when we believe and obey Him, we will overcome the world.
Jesus came by water and blood, Jesus is 100% human, and 100% God (God in the flesh). Hypostatic union.
1 John 2 v22-23
22
Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23
Whoever
denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
He who denies that Jesus (the man) is the Christ (Son of God) is the antichrist. Anyone who does this is a false prophet.
1 John 4 v1-3
1
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out
into the world. 2
By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of
God, 3
and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the
Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
1 John 2 v4-6
4
He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5
But whoever keeps
His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6
He who says he abides in Him
ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
1 John 5 v18
We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one
cannot harm him. 1 John 5v18
2 Corinthians 5 v17
17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Ephesians 4 v22-24
22
that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23
and be
renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24
and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true
righteousness and holiness.
Galatians 5 v24
24
And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Romans 10 v9-13
9
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will
be saved. 10
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11
For the
Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for
the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13
For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
Romans 6 v18
18
And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
Romans 8 v5
5
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit,
the things of the Spirit.
Romans 8 v9-10 (NIV)
9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does
not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your
spirit is alive because of righteousness.
Romans 8 v12-14
12
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13
For if you live according to the flesh
you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of
God, these are sons of God.
Galatians 5 v16-23
16
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the
Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18
But if you are
led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lewdness, 20
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions,
heresies, 21
envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time
past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23
gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Our Lifestyle
Colossians 3 v1-17
1
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
2
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3
For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4
When
Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. 5
Therefore put to death your members which are
on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6
Because of these things the
wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7
in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. 8
But
now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9
Do not lie to
one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10
and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge
according to the image of Him who created him, 11
where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised,
barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.
12
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
13
bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you,
so you also must do. 14
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15
And let the peace of God rule
in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all
wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to
the Lord. 17
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father
through Him.
