REVELATION 13
The Kingdom
of the
Antichrist
In this chapter we will be studying about the Antichrist and
the false prophet.
He is called many names in the Bible: man of sin, son of
perdition, Willful king, etc. Here he is called the
Beast.
The word for ‘Beast’ is THERION, not ZOON that was used for
the 4 beasts around the throne.
The word used for ‘crown’ previously is STEPHANOS. The one
used in this chapter is DIADEM. Only used here and
for the ‘many crowns’ of Jesus in Rev. 19.
This man who will be the beast fulfills two important things:
1. He is the ultimate product of the depravity of man. What
Adam instituted in his sin, the Beast completes!
2. He is the final product of the Gentile world powers. The
kingdoms promised by Daniel were fulfilled in history in
the Babylonian, Medo-Persian, Grecian, and Roman
Empires. He is the final act as he rules over the
reconstituted Roman Empire.
In his kingdom, he will try to rule the world by establishing:
1. A world wide kingdom.
2. A world wide religious system.
3. A world wide economic system.
These kingdoms were first seen in a dream given to King
Nebuchadnezzar:
“Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image.
This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood
before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. This
image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of
silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his
feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou sawest till that a
stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image
upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them
to pieces.”
Daniel 2:31-34
What Nebuchadnezzar, a lost man, saw as a glorious image,
Daniel later saw as a series of beasts.
“The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I
beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was
lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as
a man, and a man’s heart was given to it. And behold
another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up
itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it
between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise,
devour much flesh. After this I beheld, and lo another, like
a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a
fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was
given to it. After this I saw in the night visions, and behold
a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong
exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and
brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of
it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it;
and it had ten horns” Daniel 7:4-7
“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a
beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten
horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads
the name of blasphemy.”
Rev. 13:1
Note where he comes from – out of the sea.
“And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse
one from another” Daniel 7:3
“And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest,
where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and
nations, and tongues” Revelation 17:15
All the Kingdoms promised in Daniel came from around the
Mediterranean Sea.
“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a
beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten
horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads
the name of blasphemy.”
Rev. 13:1
He has 7 heads and 10 horns. The total number of heads
seen in the vision of Daniel in Chapter 7.
He favors his father, the Devil.
“And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and
behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten
horns, and seven crowns upon his heads” Revelation 12:3
Jesus bore the likeness of His Father also.
“He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” John 14:9
A Comparison of the Beasts
Count the heads and the horns.
“And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard,
and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the
mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his
seat, and great authority.” Rev.
13:2
In reverse order, this beast is a composite of the first three
beasts seen by Daniel.
He receives all his power and authority from Satan.
“And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to
death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world
wondered after the beast.” Rev. 13:3
Satan wants his son to be a picture of Jesus, God’s Son.
1. He has a wound that evidently killed him.
2. He miraculously comes back to life – a resurrection.
3. This causes all the world to focus their attention on him.
Prior to this time, he may have appeared to be a man of
peace.
It seems that recovering from the deadly wound caused him
to be totally changed into the wicked ruler that will be
revealed in the rest of our study.
“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power
unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who
is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?”
Rev. 13:4
Satan has always wanted to be worshipped!
This event brings him worship through the things that
happened to his ungodly son.
How tragic that the world doesn’t worship God, the Father,
because of what His Son accomplished through His death
and resurrection!
“And there was given unto him a mouth speaking
great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto
him to continue forty and two months” Rev. 13:5
His reign will last for 3 ½ years through the last half of the
Great Tribulation period. The same time as promised by
Daniel in his vision.
“And he shall speak great words against the most
High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and
think to change times and laws: and they shall be given
into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of
time.” Daniel 7:25
“And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God,
to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that
dwell in heaven.” Rev. 13:6
He is totally opposed to all that belongs to God. He
blasphemes:
1. Against God
2. Against the very name of God
3. Against the tabernacle of God
4. Against all the souls that are already in Heaven
“And it was given unto him to make war with the
saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him
over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.” Rev. 13:7
He makes war against all the saints who are still on Earth.
This includes the remnant: “And the dragon was wroth with
the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of
her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and
have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
Revelation 12:17
The 144,000 may have been killed at this time, but he will not
be able to kill the 2 witnesses until the end of the
Tribulation.
“And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him,
whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb
slain from the foundation of the world.” Rev. 13:8
All who have not been saved will worship the Beast.
From other texts it is evident that some will not worship him
since some will be saved by the witness of those who are
already saved.
It probably appears that everyone is worshipping him since
it is almost universal from all over the Earth.
“The Pharisees therefore said among themselves,
Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is
gone after him.”
“If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that
leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth
with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the
patience and the faith of the saints.” Rev.
13:9, 10
It is going to be a very difficult time for the saved who are on
Earth during the Tribulation Period.
Their only consolation is that God will give them the ultimate
victory and those who mistreat them now will face much
worse judgment from God in the future!
The ones who are lost will need to be wise in who they listen
to. They need to consider the final end of the ones they
are following.
“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the
earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a
dragon.” Rev. 13:11
Another beast comes into view – but this one is out of the
Earth, not from the sea as the first one.
The word translated ‘earth’ is also translated as ‘land’. Many
believe that this refers to the holy land.
He looks like a lamb but speaks like a dragon.
“And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast
before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell
therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was
healed.” Rev.
13:12
This beast has all the power of the first beast – Satanic
power!
His work and goal is to cause people to worship the first one.
He tries to do for the first beast what the Holy Spirit does for
Jesus. Draw all attention and worship to Him.
“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you
from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth
from the Father, he shall testify of me” John 15:26
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide
you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but
whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will
show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall
“And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire
come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of
those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the
beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they
should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by
a sword, and did live.” Rev.
13:13, 14
He has power to duplicate even the work of Elijah.
He attracts followers by his miracles not by what he teaches.
He urges people to make an image to the first beast. He
evidently used the miraculous recovery to draw the
people.
“And he had power to give life unto the image of the
beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and
cause that as many as would not worship the image of the
beast should be killed.” Rev.
13:15
He has power to cause the image to appear to be alive and
even voices come from the image to the people.
Any who won’t fall before the image to worship the beast
will be killed.
This reminds us of the image that Nebuchadnezzar made in
his day. It was the refusal of Hananiah, Mishael and
Azariah to bow before his image that caused them to
be thrown in to the fiery furnace.
“And he had power to give life unto the image of the
beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and
cause that as many as would not worship the image of the
beast should be killed.” Rev. 13:15
“Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold,
whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof
six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of
Babylon. --- That at what time ye hear the sound of the
cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds
of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: And whoso falleth
not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into
the midst of a burning fiery furnace.” Daniel 3:1, 5, 6
“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and
poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or
in their foreheads” Rev. 13:16
He causes everyone to receive a mark to be able to be
involved in any economic activity.
“And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had
the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his
name.” Rev. 13:17
Whether it be CEO’s merging companies or old widows or
orphans trying to buy a loaf of bread, the mark will
be required.
There was a time when people could be somewhat self
sufficient and provide for themselves the basic things
needed by their families.
THAT IS NO LONGER THE CASE!!!
“Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding
count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man;
and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.” Rev.
13:18
Words of wisdom are given.
Those with understanding can count the number of the
beast. He may try to be a god, but in fact he is only a
man!
666 – a satanic trinity: Satan tries to be the Father, the Beast
tries to be the Son, and the False Prophet tries to be
the Holy Spirit.
WISDOM TO COUNT THE
NUMBER
“And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the
chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.”
Exodus 14:7
“And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which
slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and
he also delivered Israel.” Judges 3:31
“And there went from thence of the family of the
Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men
appointed with weapons of war” Judges 18:11
“But six hundred men turned and fled to the
wilderness unto the rock Rimmon, and abode in the rock
Rimmon four months.”
Judges 20:47
“So David went, he and the six hundred men that were
with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that
were left behind stayed.” 1 Samuel
“Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count
the number of the beast” Rev. 13:18
“And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven
heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the
other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must
continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not,
even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into
perdition. And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten
kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive
power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one
mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall
overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings:
and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and
faithful.” Revelation 17:9-14
“Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count
the number of the beast” Rev. 13:18
“And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven
(7) heads are seven (7) mountains, on which the woman(1)
sitteth. And there are seven (7) kings: five (5) are fallen, and
one (1) is, and the other(1) is not yet come; and when he
cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that
was, and is not, even he is the eighth (8), and is of the seven
(7), and goeth into perdition. And the ten (10) horns which
thou sawest are ten (10) kings, which have received no
kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one (1) hour with
the beast. These have one (1) mind, and shall give their
power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war
(600) with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for
he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with
him are called, and chosen, and faithful.”

_____________
Sum: 666 the number of the beast
WISDOM TO COUNT THE
NUMBER
The image of Nebuchadnezzar being 60 cubits tall and 6
cubits wide may be combined with the 600 for war to
also give the 666.
WISDOM TO COUNT THE
NUMBER
The Bible number for man is 6 and is associated with the
influence of Satan over him.
Man was created on the sixth day
The sixth time the name Job was used it was spoken by
Satan.
WISDOM TO COUNT THE
NUMBER
The mixed multitude in the wilderness lusted after 6 things.
“We remember the fish (1), which we did eat in Egypt
freely; the cucumbers (2), and the melons (3), and the leeks
(4), and the onions (5), and the garlic (6)” Numbers 11:6
Peter mentioned the evil works men do.
“For the time past of our life may suffice us to have
wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in
lasciviousness (1), lusts (2), excess of wine (3), revellings (4),
banquetings (5), and abominable idolatries (6)” 1 Peter 4:3
WISDOM TO COUNT THE
NUMBER
Those who worship the beast.
“And he causeth all, both small (1) and great (2), rich
(3) and poor (4), free (5) and bond (6), to receive a mark in
their right hand, or in their foreheads)” Revelation
13:16
The sixth time the ‘thousand years’ are mentioned in
Revelation 20 it is associated with Satan.
“And when the thousand years are expired, Satan
shall be loosed out of his prison” Revelations
20:7
WISDOM TO COUNT THE
NUMBER
The square of 6 is 36.
The sum of all the numbers up to 36: 1 +
2 + 3 + 4 +---- 35 +36 = 666
