Lesson 10
After the final attack of the dragon, the
beast and the false prophet (Revelation 13),
John saw the people who will overcome in
the conflict (14:1-5), their message (14:6-
13), and the consequences of accepting or
rejecting that message (14:14-20).
“Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven,
having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on
the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.”
(Revelation 14:6)
The message of the three angels
is proclaimed “with a loud voice”
(14:7; 18:2; 14:9). This is a very
important and urgent message
that the whole world must hear
(14:6).
This message is “the everlasting gospel.”
That is, the good news of salvation by
grace through the sacrifice of Jesus.
It’s everlasting because it was planned
“before time began” (Tito 1:2), it has
never changed and it won’t change, and
everlasting life depends on accepting or
rejecting it.
“saying with a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give glory to Him,
for the hour of His judgment has come…’” (Revelation 14:7a)
What does “fearing God” mean?
Worshipping Him (Genesis 31:53)
Taking Him seriously (Exodus 9:20)
Keeping His Law (Deuteronomy 6:2)
Serving Him (Deuteronomy 10:20)
What is “His judgment”?
The judgment begins while the gospel is
being preached. This is known as the pre-
coming judgment (before the Second
Coming). The eternal fate of each person is
decided in this judgment (Revelation 22:11)
As we face the judgment, we must
reverently fear God who gives us salvation,
freedom and everlasting life.
The final conflict attacks true worship as defined in the
first four Commandments:
GOD
Worship God alone
(Ex. 20:2-3)
Don’t make images
to worship them
(Ex. 20:4-6)
Don’t blaspheme
against the name of
God (Ex. 20:7)
Worship the Creator
on Sabbath
(Ex. 20:8-11)
SATAN
Worship Satan
(Rev. 13:4)
Worship the image
of the beast
(Rev. 13:14-15)
Blaspheme against
God and His name
(Rev. 13:6)
Sunday as the day of
worship
(Rev. 13:17)
Babylon was founded by men who didn’t
believe God’s promises (Genesis 11:1-9).
Nebuchadnezzar made Babylon “great”
(Daniel 4:30) and Isaiah prophesied it
would fall because of its idolatry
(Isaiah 21:9).
Theistic evolution. That is, God used evolution to create,
instead of the 7-day Creation.
Tradition is greater than the Bible.
A reviewed ethic that removes the Biblical definition of
genre, marriage, etc.
The End-Time Babylon is made of religious
systems that have rejected the truth by
accepting false doctrines like:
This is the “wine” that has made the whole world drunk, so they
cannot think clearly and embrace truth.
“Men act as though they had been given
special liberty to cancel the decisions of
God. The higher critics put themselves
in the place of God, and review the
Word of God, revising or endorsing it. In
this way, all nations are induced to
drink the wine of the fornication of
Babylon. These higher critics have fixed
things to suit the popular heresies of
these last days. If they cannot subvert
and misapply the Word of God, if they
cannot bend it to human practices, they
break it.”
E.G.W. (The Upward Look, January 21)
“Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, ‘If
anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on
his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of
the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of
His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the
presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.’”
(Revelation 14:9-10)
Those who drank of Babylon’s wine must drink of
the wine of God’s wrath. This wine is spilled in 7
plagues (Rev. 15:7; 16:1-21).
Fire and brimstone are used to represent divine
judgment (Genesis 19:24; Isaiah 34:8-10; Jude 7).
The smoke of their torment ascends
forever. This means that the
consequences are eternal.
In the Second Coming, those who have
accepted the last call to the everlasting
gospel will live forever (Rev. 14:14-16;
Mt. 13:30). Those who haven’t accepted
the gospel will die (Rev. 14:17-20).
“The angels are represented as flying in the
midst of heaven, proclaiming to the world a
message of warning, and having a direct
bearing upon the people living in the last days
of this earth’s history. No one hears the voice
of these angels, for they are a symbol to
represent the people of God who are working
in harmony with the universe of heaven. Men
and women, enlightened by the Spirit of God
and sanctified through the truth, proclaim
the three messages in their order.”
