About The Solar System

 The solar system is a gravitationally bound system that includes the Sun, eight pl
anets, five officially named dwarf planets, hundreds of moons, and thousands of
asteroids and comets. It formed approximately 4.6 billion years ago from a collap
sing interstellar cloud of gas and dust, which also gave rise to the Milky Way galax
y where it resides. The four inner planets are terrestrial, while the outer planets a
re gas giants.

When It Was Born?

The solar system began to form about 4.6 billion years ago - 9.2 billion
years after the Big Bang. Scientists think that its formation was triggered by
the shockwave from a nearby supernova - an exploding star.

Rocky Planets

The rocky planets are Mercury,

Venus, Earth and Mars. They
have a solid surface and are
composed mainly of silicates.
They have a metallic iron core
and active plate tectonics. Earth
is the only known rocky planet
that supports life. We know that
there are two types of planets
in the solar system.
Gas Planets

Gas giants are a type of massive

planet that consist
predominantly of hydrogen and
helium, lacking a well-defined
solid surface. In our Solar
System, the two gas giants
are Jupiter and Saturn, which
are distinguished from the
smaller and denser ice giants
Uranus and Neptune.
