INTRODUCTION
Output devices are hardware components of a
computer system that display, project, or
produce the results of computer processing in a
form that humans can understand. An output
device is any piece of computer hardware used
to communicate the results of data processing
carried out by a computer to the outside world.
Common Examples of output
devices:Monitor,Printer,Speaker,Headphones
etc.
• Printer is an output device used to produce a hard
Printer copy of text, images, or graphics from a computer.
• Converts soft copy (digital data) into a physical form
on paper.
• Printers connect to computers or mobile devices through
USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or networks
• Multifunction features, such as scanning, copying, and
faxing.
• Printing quality is measured in DPI (dots per inch) —
higher DPI means better quality.
• Use ink cartridges or toner cartridges as their
printing material.
Types of
printer
IMPACT PRINTER NON IMPACT
PRINTER
Impact • Impact printers are printers that print by
striking an inked ribbon against the paper.
printer • They work similar to typewriters, using
mechanical impact to form characters or
images.
• These printers are mainly used for printing
multipart forms, invoices, and bills.
• They are durable and can work well in dusty
or industrial environments.
• They are usually noisy because of the
mechanical striking process.
• Examples include Dot Matrix Printer, Daisy
Wheel Printer, and Line Printer.
• A dot matrix printer is an impact printer
that forms characters and images using tiny

Dot-matrix •
dots made by pins striking an ink ribbon.
It has a print head with 9 or 24 pins to
Printer create letters and graphics.
• It is noisy and gives low-quality output, but
printing cost is low.
• Commonly used for bills, invoices, and
receipts requiring carbon copies.
• Example: Epson LQ Series, TVS MSP 250
Star.
• A daisy wheel printer is an impact printer

Daisy Wheel that prints high-quality characters using a

wheel-shaped disk (like a daisy) with

Printer •
characters on each petal.
When printing, the wheel rotates, and a
hammer strikes the required character
against an ink ribbon to print it.
• It produces letter-quality output but is very
slow and noisy.
• Used where high-quality text (like letters or
documents) is needed.
• Example: Brother HR-15, Diablo 630.
• A line printer is an impact printer that prints
Line Printer one line at a time instead of one character at
a time.
• It is used for high-speed printing in large
organizations and data centers.
• The printing speed ranges from 300 to 3000
lines per minute.
• Produces low-quality output but is very fast
and durable.
• Common types include Drum printer and
Chain printer.
• Example: IBM 1403, Printronix P8000.
• Non-impact printers print without striking
the paper.
• They use laser, inkjet, or heat to form
characters and images.
Nonimpact • These printers are fast, quiet, and produce
high-quality output.
Printers
• They cannot make carbon copies.
• Types: Inkjet, Laser, and Thermal printers.
• Examples: HP LaserJet, Canon PIXMA, Epson
Stylus.
• An inkjet printer is a non-impact printer
that sprays tiny droplets of liquid ink onto
Inkjet paper to form text and images.

Printers • It provides high-quality and color printing

suitable for photos and graphics.
• It operates quietly and is faster than impact
printers.
• However, ink cartridges can be expensive
and may dry out if not used regularly.
• Commonly used for home and office
printing.
• Example: HP DeskJet, Canon PIXMA, Epson
Stylus.
Thermal • A thermal printer is a non-impact printer
that prints by applying heat to special heat-
Printer sensitive paper.
• It is quiet, fast, and requires no ink or
toner.
• Mostly used in billing machines, ATMs, and
barcode printing.
• The printed text may fade over time since it’s
on thermal paper.
• Examples: Epson TM Series, Zebra Thermal
Printers.
• A laser printer is a non-impact
Laser Printer printer that uses a laser beam and
toner powder to print text and
images.
• The laser creates an electrostatic
image on a drum, which attracts toner
particles and transfers them to paper.
• It provides high-quality, fast, and
quiet printing.
• Commonly used in offices and
schools for bulk printing.
• Examples: HP LaserJet, Canon LBP.
• A speaker is an output device that
converts digital audio signals from the
computer into sound that we can hear.
• It allows users to listen to music,
videos, voice, or alerts from the
computer.
Speaker • Speakers work with the help of a sound
card, which converts digital data into
analog sound waves.
• They can be built-in or external and
come in mono, stereo, or surround
sound systems.
• Examples: Logitech Speakers, JBL
Bluetooth Speakers.
• Built-in Speakers – Found in laptops/monitors;
produce basic sound.
• External Speakers – Connected by cables;
give louder and clearer sound.
• Bluetooth/Wireless Speakers – Connect
Types of without wires; portable and easy to use.

Speaker • Surround Sound Speakers – Multi-speaker

setup (like 5.1); used for gaming or home
theaters.
• Woofer/Subwoofer – Produce deep bass
sounds; used for powerful audio effects.
