What is a computer?
An electronic device used to process and store data according to the instruction given.
History of computers
• In ancient years, China and other middle eastern countries used abacus to
perform basic calculations.
• Charles Babbage is considered to have developed the first mechanical
computing machine in 1822 called the ‘Difference Engine’
• It could approximate several sets of polynomials and make hard copy results.
• In 1833, he designed the ‘Analytical Engine’ known to be the first universal
automatic calculator
