Introduction
BOILER
Boilers are also known as steam generators, they are a
closed pressure vessel in which water is converted into
steam through the application of heat.
The steam is used for driving steam engines or steam
turbines for power generation.
Classification of boiler
ACCORDING TO THE CONTENTS IN THE TUBE:
a) Fire tube
b) water tube boiler.
ACCORGING TO POSITION OF FURNACE:
a) Internally fired boilers
b) Externally fired boilers
ACCORDING TO AXIS OF FURNACE:
a) Vertical boilers
b) Horizontal boilers
ACCORDING TO PRESSURE OF BOILER :
a) Low pressure boiler
b) High pressure boiler
ACCORDING TO METHOD OF CIRCULATION OF
WATER:
a) Natural circulation boilers
b) Forced circulation boilers
Types of boilers
WHRB - waste heat recovery Boiler
AFBC - Atmospheric Fluidised Bed combustion Boiler
CFBC - circulating Fluidised Bed combustion Boiler
PBC - Pulverized Bed combustion Boiler
Modes of heat transfer
1. Conduction
2. Convection
3. Radiation
Boiler mountings
Mountings on steam boiler are a set of safety
devices installed for the safe operation of a
boiler
Pressure Gauge
Water level indicator
Safety valve
Steam stop valve
Feed check valve
Boiler Accessories
Boiler accessories are components or devices that are added
to boilers to improve their efficient operation
Air preheater : It utilize the heat of exhaust gases.
Economizer: Heat is used to raise the temperature of feed
water supplied to the boiler.
Steam super heater: Used to super heat the steam.
Feed pump: Raise the pressure of water and force it into
the boiler.
What is AFBC Boiler ?
AFBC (Atmospheric Fluidized Bed Combustion) boiler is
a type of boiler that utilizes a fluidized bed to burn coal or
other fuels at atmospheric pressure

Overview of AFBC
Difference between AFBC and
WHRB
AFBC WHRB
AFBC boilers use a bed of fine particles WHRB is a type of boiler that captures
(typically sand or limestone) suspended in an and utilizes waste heat from various
upward-flowing stream of air to combust industrial processes (like SID) to generate
fuel. steam
The bed provides good mixing and It recovers heat from sources like exhaust
efficient combustion, reducing emissions like gases from a furnace, kiln, or other industrial
sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. equipment to produce additional power or
heat.
It's commonly used for burning low-grade It helps in energy efficiency and reducing
fuels like coal, biomass, and waste. the overall carbon footprint of the facility.
