Disaster: Definition
• Any untoward event that cause damage, economical disruption, loss human
lives and property too such extent, which is enough to warrant an extra-ordinary
response from the outside of the area affected

• Man-made/ Artificial: RTA, Rail-road accident, Terrorism

RISK = HAZRD * VULNERABILITY
• HAZRD: Any Phenomenon which has an ability to cause harm
• VULNERABILITY: Any constrains which hinders the ability to deal with HAZRD
• RISK: A PROBABILITY of occurrence of a negative event, when vulnerable
situation interacts with RISK

Low visual acuity * Slippery floor = FALL & INJURY

community → So, any types of
disaster can be managed efficiently
• Disaster Mitigation: It is a multi-sectorial phenomenon in which measures are taken
or applied → to prevent or reduce the vulnerability to hazards during disasters 5

Triage: Modified Triage
• It is a method to deal with maximum number of patient within minimum time,
where patients are sorted according to the benefit expected to receive but not
according to severity of injury
