What are Modals?
• • Modals are helping verbs that express ability, permission,
obligation, or possibility.
• • Common modals: can, may, must, should, will
Functions of Modals
• • Can → ability (I can swim.)
• • May → permission (You may go outside.)
• • Must → strong obligation (You must do your homework.)
• • Should → advice (You should eat vegetables.)
• • Will → future intention (I will help you.)
