When filing Income Tax returns without a digital signature, the e-Return process includes generating an ITR-V form upon successful upload of the return. The taxpayer must print, fill, and verify this form, then submit it to the local Income Tax Office within 15 days, which adds an extra step compared to the digital signature process. In contrast, using digital signatures eliminates this step, as the return filing process is completed with the electronic 'Acknowledgement' .

The Income Tax e-Filing process ensures user convenience by enabling taxpayers to complete returns online from anywhere and at any time. It simplifies the process with step-by-step guidance, instant assistance, and real-time verification, minimizing the need for physical visits to tax offices and enhancing the overall user experience .

e-Filing enhances accuracy by providing a structured framework that guides taxpayers in filling forms correctly, reducing manual errors. The electronic system includes various checks that minimize discrepancies. It enhances safety by creating a permanent digital record, ensuring full privacy of submitted data and safeguarding documents from physical damage or loss .

E-return intermediaries assist taxpayers by streamlining the e-Filing process; they facilitate electronic filing and manage the submission of the ITR-V form if necessary. Taxpayers might choose to use intermediaries to benefit from their expertise, reduce filing errors, and save time, especially if a taxpayer is unfamiliar with the e-Filing process or faces technological challenges .

Using digital signatures in the e-Filing process of Income Tax returns provides the advantage of completing the return filing process upon the generation of the 'Acknowledgement,' eliminating the need to submit a paper ITR-V form. This streamlines the procedure, enhances convenience by reducing paperwork, and ensures that the entire process remains electronic, thus maintaining a consistent digital record .

When filing without a digital signature, a taxpayer must ensure that they print the ITR-V form generated post-upload, fill out and verify it, and submit it to the local Income Tax Office within 15 days. This verified submission completes the return filing process without a digital signature .

Choosing not to use digital signatures may lead to additional manual steps like printing, verifying, and physically submitting the ITR-V form, which increases the risk of errors or loss of documentation. It may also delay the completion of the filing process, as the return is not considered complete until the ITR-V form is received by the tax office .

Selecting the appropriate type of return form is crucial because it ensures that the taxpayer inputs the correct information based on their income sources and category (e.g., individual or HUF). Using the wrong form might lead to inaccuracies in reporting and could potentially cause delays in processing or lead to penalties for incorrect submission .

e-Filing creates a permanent digital record of all submitted returns, which is significant as it provides taxpayers with accessible documentation for future reference and audits. This permanence eases the retrieval process and supports accuracy in tax history record-keeping, which is essential for compliance and dispute resolution .

Verification of the ITR-V form is critical because it serves as a confirmation of the taxpayer's identity and the accuracy of the return details submitted electronically. Without this verification, the filing process remains incomplete, which could lead to processing delays or potential legal issues for not adhering to the IRS filing requirements .
