Definition of First Aid
• Immediate, temporary care given to a person
who is injured or suddenly ill before
professional medical help arrives.

First Aider Responsibilities
• Assess situation
• Ensure safety

First Aid Kit Contents
• Bandages
• Antiseptic
• Gauze
• Gloves

A – Airway
• Open airway using head–tilt chin–lift
B – Breathing
• Look, listen, feel
• If not breathing → start CPR
C – CPR
• 30 compressions : 2 breaths
• Depth 5–6 cm
• Rate 100–120/min
D – Defibrillation
• Use AED as soon as available
Control of Bleeding
• Apply pressure
• Use bandage
• Elevate limb
Fractures
• Immobilize
• Do not move limb unnecessarily
Burns
• Cool under running water 20 min
• Do not apply ice or toothpaste
Choking
• Heimlich maneuver for adults
• Back blows + chest thrusts for infants
Shock
• Lay person flat
• Elevate legs
• Keep warm
