Definition of First Aid
• Immediate, temporary care given to a person
who is injured or suddenly ill before
professional medical help arrives.
Aims of First Aid
• Preserve life
• Prevent further harm
• Promote recovery
Importance of First Aid
• Reduces complications
• Increases survival
• Calms the victim and bystanders
First Aider Responsibilities
• Assess situation
• Ensure safety
• Provide care within limits
• Seek help
First Aid Kit Contents
• Bandages
• Antiseptic
• Gauze
• Gloves
• Scissors
• Adhesive tape
A – Airway
• Open airway using head–tilt chin–lift
B – Breathing
• Look, listen, feel
• If not breathing → start CPR
C – CPR
• 30 compressions : 2 breaths
• Depth 5–6 cm
• Rate 100–120/min
D – Defibrillation
• Use AED as soon as available
Control of Bleeding
• Apply pressure
• Use bandage
