INTRODUCTION
It is legislation which aims at protecting children from all
types of sexual abuse
It has 46 provisions and 7 rules
Gender-Neutral act, means a victim could be a boy or girl
Children under POCSO Act is defined as any person below the
age of 18 years
The act defines different forms of sexual
abuse,
Penetrative sexual assault
Aggravated penetrative Sexual
assault Sexual assault
Aggravated sexual
assault Sexual
harassment
Use of child for

MEDICAL EXAMINATION OF VICTIM
Consent should be obtained from the victim
before examination
Child victim shall be examined by registered
medical practitioner
In case of girl victim examination shall be
done by female practitioner only
Medical examination should be done in
front of parents only
In case parent of a child is absent, then medical
examination should be conducted in presence of a
women nominated by the head of medical institution
The report shall state precisely the reason for
each conclusion.
The registered medical practitioner shall, without
delay forward the report to the investigating officer
who shall forward to the magistrate.
MTP in minor girl
Consent:
For minors(<18years), written consent of parent or
legal guardian is mandatory.
The girl cannot provide independent consent if she is
under 18.
Re p o r t i n g requirement(POCSO Ac t ) :
Any pregnancy in a minor is legally considered the
result of statutory rape, regardless of consent
Health care providers are legally bound to report the case
to the police under the POCSO Act,2012.
Gestational age limit for
MTP:
Upto 20 weeks with approval of one registered medical
practitioner (RMP)
20-24 weeks requires two RMP approvals, only under
specified categories
Beyond 24 weeks: Termination is only allowed for fetal
abnormalities or to save the life of the mother, with approval
from a medical board.
Methods:
Medical abortion(pills) upto 9 weeks
Surgical abortion for later

y: Doctors must maintain confidentiality, but due to
POCSO, authorities are informed.
Identity of the minor must not be disclosed publically.
ONE-STOP CENTRE SCHEME
Also known as Saki, is an initiative to provide
integrated support and assistance to women and
girls affected by violence.
It provides medical aid, legal counselling , psycho
social support, police assistance, and temporary
shelter.
The scheme is integrated with the Women
Helpline(181) for better coordination amd
