ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project focuses on converting
organic matter into biogas (primarily
methane) using bacteria in an oxygen-
free environment. It is a popular and safe
project for educational settings.
4

INTRODUCTION OF
BIOGAS GENERATION
Biogas is produced when organic matter
decomposes in an oxygen-free
environment. Anaerobic bacteria convert
waste into methane-rich biogas.
Simple and safe experiment to
demonstrate renewable energy production.
5

WHY BIOGAS
ENERGY(ANAEROBIC
DIGESTION)

IT IS RENEWABLE
AND
SAFE
OBJECTIVE
To compare the amount of biogas
produced using different biomass types:

Cow manure
Vegetable peelings
Mashed bananas
Combination mixtures
7

MATERIALS USED
1-liter soda bottles (multiple)
Fresh organic waste (manure, food scraps)
Distilled water
Latex balloons
Kitchen scale
Funnel & measuring tape
Permanent marker
Safety gloves
8

METHODOLOGY
EXPERIMENTAL PLAN
Preparation:
Label bottles for each biomass type.
Example labels: 'Cow Manure', 'Vegetable Peelings',
'Banana Slurry', 'Manure + Veg Mix'.Procedure
Adding Ingredients: Measure equal weights of
biomass using a kitchen scale.
Mix with distilled water in fixed ratios to make slurry.
Use a funnel to pour slurry into each bottle
9

Sealing and Setup:

Seal each bottle tightly
using latex balloons.
Secure with tape to ensure
airtight conditions.
Place bottles in a warm and
ventilated location.
Observation:
Monitor balloon inflation
daily.
Measure balloon
circumference using
measuring tape.

16

DATA COLLECTION
Measure balloon size
every 24 hours.
Record observations for
each biomass type.
Compare which
produced the maximum
gas volume.
17

EXPECTED RESULTS
Cow manure usually produces the highest
methane yield.
Banana slurry may produce gas faster due to
high sugar content.
Mixed waste can show combined effect.
Balloon inflation clearly indicates biogas
production.
18

REAL WORLD APPLICATIONS

• Rural biogas plants
• Waste-to-energy systems
• Organic fertilizer generation
• Reducing landfill waste
19

CONCLUSION
Anaerobic digestion is a simple, eco-friendly
method of generating biogas.
Biomass type affects gas quantity significantly.
Demonstrates renewable energy principles
effectively.
ADVANTAGES 20

Renewable and Sustainable Energy Source

Reduces Environmental pollution
Produces high quality organic fertilizer
Waste management solution
Low operation cost
Simple technology
