Oman has a rich heritage and it reflects
the strong bond that connects Omanis to
their land and community. It is visible

very important events in the Omani culture.
The cuisine of Oman is generally very simple, which usually consists of chicken, fish,
and lamb. For dessert, many Omani people have a kind of sweet, known as Omani
halwa.
For men, the national dress is an ankle-length,
collarless gown with long sleeves, called a
dishdasha.
The national dress for Omani women includes
a dress worn over trousers (sirwal) and a
headdress (lihaf).
Traditions, Art & Literature, Handicraft
If invited into an Omani house, a visitor is
greeted with a bowl of dates, qahwa (coffee
with cardamom) and fruits. Host gifts the guest
incense and perfume. It is impolite to enter the
house with your shoes or slippers on.
Architecture plays an important part of Omani
culture. By far, Arab and Islamic architecture
dominates in Oman. Oman has many museums
dedicated to its history and cultural arts, many
of which are located in Muscat.
Most of the Literature center around subjects
such as religion, culture, and history. Poetry has
also been a style utilized from the early periods
and is still popular today. Most Omani authors
write in Arabic.
Domestic arts include pottery, jewelry making,
weaving, beadwork, and other textiles.

Location & Climate
Oman is located in the
southeastern quarter of the
