Horizontal Bright Annealing Process Overview

Bright annealing is a heat treatment process that enhances metal properties and surface quality in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The process involves several components including uncoilers, pinch roll levellers, and specialized furnaces, ensuring continuous and smooth production flow. Key stages include degreasing, heating, rapid cooling, and final inspection, all contributing to the desired mechanical properties and finish of the metal.

Horizontal Bright Annealing

 Bright annealing is a heat treatment process that heats a metal

in a controlled, non-oxidizing atmosphere to relieve internal
stresses and soften it, resulting in a bright, shiny, and clean
surface without the need for post-treatment.

 The process prevents oxidation by using a protective gas, most

commonly hydrogen or a hydrogen/nitrogen mix, and often
involves heating and cooling the metal within a furnace,
followed by a rapid cooling process to avoid the formation of
an oxide scale.

Uncoiler
The uncoiler's main purpose is to release the raw
material, which is in the form of a tightly wound
coil, and feed it as a continuous strip.

It delivers the strip at a consistent speed to

match the speed of the downstream equipment,
ensuring a continuous and smooth production
flow.
Pinch roll Leveller
A combined system that uses pinch rolls to draw the
material through the levelling rolls, ensuring both
flatness and proper material feed.

An "entry welder" in a bright annealing line is a

welding machine used at the beginning of the process
to join metal strips together, allowing the line to run
continuously.
Degreasing section
The degreasing section in bright annealing is a
crucial pre-treatment step that removes rolling oils
from a metal strip before it enters the annealing
furnace.
 Water washing
 Chemical washing
 Rinse section
Blowers are used after the decreasing section in
bright annealing for rapid cooling of the material by
blowing ambient air across it.

Entry looper in a bright annealing line is a section

of the line that maintains continuous strip tension and
compensates for speed variations as the strip enters
the processing section. It acts as a buffer, storing a
length of material to ensure a smooth, uninterrupted
flow through the annealing furnace.
Bright annealing furnace is a specialized furnace that
heats metals like stainless steel and copper in a controlled,
protective atmosphere, preventing oxidation and achieving a
bright, clean surface finish while improving material
machancial properties like flexibility & hardness.
Jet cooling is a rapid cooling technique used in
bright annealing to quickly lower the temperature of a
material after it has been heated to achieve the
required microstructure & properties

An exit looper in a bright annealing line is a

component that manages the slack in the material strip
after it exits the annealing furnace, allowing it to be
processed at the correct tension and speed through
subsequent stages like a tension reel and exit shear. It is
located at the end of the bright annealing process and is
typically followed by a tension reel and other equipment
for final inspection and coiling.
An Exit shear in the bright annealing process is a
cutting device, typically a shear, located at the end of the
bright annealing line where the finished, bright-finished
material is cut to its final length.
In a continuous bright annealing process, a recoiler's
role is to wind the processed metal strip into a tight coil
after it has passed through the annealing furnace.

In the bright annealing process, bridle rolls are

crucial for maintaining precise tension and controlled
speed of the metal strip as it passes through the
furnace and cooling sections
Steering control
These systems are crucial for maintaining the material's proper
path and tension during the continuous process.
The line is made by the following
equipment
 Double unwinding section with pay off reels and paper
winders.
 Threading section with peelers, pinch rolls, flatteners
and shears.
 Welding section with centering devices.
 Degreasing, rinsing and drying section
 Entry storage section with horizontal accumulator,
steering and bridle rolls
 Annealing section with muffle type furnace and jet
cooling
 Exit storage with horizontal accumulator, steering
and bridle rolls.
 Exit Section with inspection station, exit shear,
tension reel
