Explain the use of computers and the role of information
technology in society.
INTRODUCTION
• Computer and information technology are essential in today’s world.
Computers help in processing information and performing tasks quickly,
while IT provides systems that enable communication, data storage and
information management

• Computer: A computer is an electronic device that accepts data as input,
processes it according to instructions, stores it and gives out meaningful results or
output. For example desktop computers, laptops, tablets ,smart phones and servers.
• Information technology. This refers to the use of computer systems and
communication technologies to handle information. For example, e-mails and
messaging systems, internet and websites, online banking systems, mobile apps,
school management systems, hospital information, databases and cloud computing.
