Chapter 2 R100E Overview

Volvo Construction Equipment

New Rigid Hauler with Strong DNA
New Rigid Hauler with Strong DNA
Rigid Hauler design,
development,
manufacture, and support
from the Motherwell
facility for almost 70
years.
First Rigid Hauler
manufactured at the
Motherwell facility in
1950, with proven truck
heritage lines back to
1934.
Industry proved
component integration
for strong product design
and performance;
● Engine DNA lines
back to 1919
● Transmission origins
back to 1946 with
heritage lines back to
1915.
● Continuous integration
partnerships for over 40
years – Structural, Gear,
and Drivetrain.
● Now driven and backed
by VCE design, quality,
and manufacturing core
values.

Introduction and Product Walk Around
Chassis Design

Chassis

● Fabricated from box-section steel rails with high-

strength steel castings in key stress locations
absorbing the worksite impacts for long durable
lifecycles >60,000 hrs

● The closed ‘horse collar’ allows for flexibility in the

frame to dissipate twists and loads while
incorporating a reserve of structural strength well
in excess of that required to absorb the stresses
imposed by high impact loading and when
travelling on uneven, high rolling resistance
applications.

● ROPS compliant structure and operator cab

connection.

Engine

Cummins Engine
30 litre V12 cylinder ● Cummins QST30 T2 engine

● 30.5 litre Displacement

● V12 cylinder

● Bore 140mm Stroke 165mm

● legislated Tier 2/Stage II emissions

● 2 X CM552 Electronic Control Unit (LH Primary)

● 2 X RP39 Fuel Pumps

● 2 X HE851 Pulse Turbos

● Charge air cooled

● Pre Lube Start up circuit

Volvo Construction Equipment

Transmission

● Allison 8610 ORS Transmission

● 6 forward Gears

● 1 Reverse Gear

● Planetary Geared Transmission

● Automatic Lockup control

● Integral Retarder as Standard

● CEC5 electronic controls

Volvo Construction Equipment

Suspension

Overview
● Four independent self
contained nitrogen /
hydraulic suspension
cylinders that absorb high
levels of loading and ground
surface shock for excellent
operator comfort and control,
machine stability and high
levels of productivity.

Volvo Construction Equipment

Suspension

Front Suspension

2 independent nitrogen / hydraulic suspension

cylinders connected to the main chassis by an A-
frame (wishbone) at each front wheel.
● Protects the operator against both loading and
ground surface shock loads for high levels of
comfort and control for lower operator fatigue
and higher productivity.
● High levels of operator control for excellent
machine maneuverability for safe and faster
cycle times.
● Suspension geometry provides excellent
machine stability during turning for safer and
higher levels of machine control.
● Protects machine structures against ground
surface shock loads for longer structural and
component lifecycles. Lowering operational
costs via increased uptime and reduced
maintenance interventions.

Volvo Construction Equipment

Suspension

Rear Suspension

Rear drive axle is connected to the chassis by

means of a trailing A-frame with spherical
bearing permitting oscillation of the axle with
cross axial motion restrained by a lateral link.
The rear suspension bears the load through
variable-rate nitrogen / hydraulic suspension
cylinders
● Inverted rear suspension cylinders to protect
the chrome and oil immersed top end seal and
bush lubrication for component durability and
efficient bleeding capability.
● Providing smooth operation for both empty
and loaded haul cycles for low operator
fatigue and higher productivity.
● Protects machine structures against ground
surface shock loads for longer structural and
component lifecycles. Lowering operational
costs via increased uptime and reduced
maintenance interventions.
