Introduction to Keyboarding
• • Definition: The skill of using a keyboard
efficiently.
• • Importance: Saves time, increases
productivity, reduces errors.
Parts of the Keyboard
• • Alphanumeric keys
• • Function keys (F1–F12)
• • Control keys (Ctrl, Alt, Esc)
• • Navigation keys
• • Numeric keypad
• • Special keys (Enter, Shift, Spacebar, etc.)
Ergonomics and Typing Posture
• • Sit upright with feet flat on the floor.
• • Elbows at right angles.
• • Wrists slightly elevated.
• • Monitor at eye level.
Home Row Keys
• • Home Row: A S D F (left) and J K L ; (right).
• • Fingers rest here when typing.
• • Always return fingers to the home row.
Finger Placement
• • Each finger has assigned keys.
• • Index fingers: F and J.
• • Pinky fingers: Shift, Enter, etc.
Touch-Typing Techniques
• • Typing without looking at the keyboard.
• • Focus on accuracy before speed.
