Research
Presentation by Shriram L
Acharya
Class 8
Introduction
India's space program, headed by ISRO, is experiencing
significant advancements in space research, marked by various
missions, technological innovations,and growing global
collaborations. The various achievements of ISRO, along with
commercial satellite launches and advancements in space
technology, position India as a rising force in the global space
arena.
Aryabhata
On April 19th 1975, ISRO launched the Aryabhata satellite into the
earths orbit. It was launched by the soviet union in a Soviet Kosmos-3M
rocket. This mission’s success was a very significant milestone in ISRO’s
history, marking its entry into the space age.
Aryabhata, India's first satellite, was primarily designed for
scientific research in X-ray astronomy, aeronomics, and solar physics. It
aimed to explore these areas by conducting experiments
and collecting data related to the Earth's ionosphere.
Chandrayaan 1
The Chandrayaan 1 was Bharat’s first lunar probe launched in October
2009 and operated until August 2009. the mission consisted of an
orbiter and an impactor. It was launched with the help of a PSLV-XL
from Satish Dhawan Space center on 22 October 2008.
On 14 November 2008, the Moon Impact
Probe separated from the Chandrayaan orbiter at 14:36
UTC and struck the south pole in a controlled manner. One
of its many achievements was finding water molecules in
lunar soil
Chandrayaan 2
The Chandrayaan 2 was Bharat’s second moon probe. It was launched
using a LVM3-M1 rocket. The craft consisted of an orbiter and the
Pragyan rover reached lunar orbit on 20 August 2019. The orbiter
successfully started orbiting the moon but the Vikram lander attempted
a lunar landing on 6th September 2019; the lander crashed due to a
software error.
The orbiter is stil perfectly functioning and continues to
bring information to the ISRO headquarters.
Chandrayaan 3
Chandrayaan-3 is India’s third lunar mission, launched by ISRO on 14
July 2023 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. Its main objective was
to demonstrate a safe and soft landing on the Moon’s surface. The
mission consisted of a lander named Vikram and a rover named
Pragyan.
On 23 August 2023, Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed near the
Moon’s south pole, making India the first country to achieve a soft
landing in that region. This historic achievement research on the
Moon’s surface, including studying its soil, minerals, and seismic
activity.
Gaganyaan
Gaganyaan Mission is India’s first human spaceflight program by ISRO.
It aims to send 2–3 astronauts into low Earth orbit (400 km) for 3 days.
The mission will use the GSLV Mk III rocket and a special crew module.
India will become the fourth nation to send humans to space after USA,
Russia and China
Mangalyaan
The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also known as
Mangalyaan, was India's first interplanetary mission,
successfully placing a spacecraft into orbit around Mars
on its first attempt. Launched on November 5, 2013 by
ISRO, Mangalyaan achieved several significant
milestones, including becoming the first Asian nation to
reach Martian orbit and the first nation to do so on its
maiden attempt.
