with the manipulation of text documents. Each word processor has
the ability to create, display, edit, save and print documents.
Microsoft Word is one good example of most utilized word
processors by computer users.

INSERTING OBJECTS IN DOCUMENT
Inserting objects in Microsoft Word is very simple. Most of the commands for inserting objects
can be found in the Insert tab of the ribbon as discussed in the previous module on Microsoft
Word User Interface. This module will explain Microsoft Word 2016 and how to navigate it.
The module will focus on the basic objects that can be inserted in a document.

Inserting objects in Microsoft Word is very simple. Most of the commands for inserting objects
can be found in the Insert tab of the ribbon as discussed in the previous module on Microsoft
Word User Interface. This module will explain Microsoft Word 2016 and how to navigate it.
The module will focus on the basic objects that can be inserted in a document.

CONTEXTUAL TABS
Contextual tabs are tabs that can only be accessed for certain situations. For
instance, working with pictures will show a contextual tab for modifying pictures
as shown in Figure below. Contextual Tabs show different options to modify the
position, color, style and other attributes of the object being selected

SELECTING AND RESIZING OBJECTS
• The user must first select the object he/she wants to
format. Selecting an object is simply clicking it with a
mouse. Selected objects will show Sizing handles. These
are the circles around a selected object which will let a
user know that the object is selected as well as the points
where the user can resize the object.
• The mouse pointer will change to Sizing cursor when
placed on sizing handles.
• Resizing means enlarging or reducing an object. Resizing

Selecting multiple object can be done in either of the two ways :
• Dragging the mouse pointer to select wanted objects or;
• Using a combination of holding the Ctrl button and clicking the
desired objects.
GROUPING AND UNGROUPING OBJECTS
• A feature where the user can group two or
more objects into one object. Objects that can
be grouped include pictures, shapes, and text
• box.
Grouping makes it easier to deal with multiple
objects that must be combined especially when
moving it around the document.
• Group and ungroup command can be accessed in the Arrange
group command in Contextual Tab of any object selected.

WRAP TEXT
• a feature that lets a user control how the image will
interact with text.
• It is used to wrap the text around an object. Like grouping
command, this command can be accessed in Contextual
Tab of any object selected.
• Wrap text lets the user decide how the objects will move
in the document. It can be any of the following:
A. Square - text wraps around the image in a
square shape.
B. Tight/Through - text wraps around image
regardless of what shape the image is. It works best
with images that have no background

C. Top and Bottom - text stops when it hits the
top of the image and continues at the bottom of
the image; no text is to the left or right of the
image.
D. Behind text - image is behind text. Text will
cover image.
E. In front of text - Image is in front of text.

The following are the steps in inserting picture in a document.
1. Click Insert tab
2. On to Illustrations command group and select Picture, Shapes or
Text Box command.

The following are the steps in inserting picture in a document.
1. Click Insert tab

Picture tools Format Tab almost has the same set of commands
with Drawing Tools Format Tab for Shapes and Text Box. They only
differ in some commands that are only available to setting picture
and setting both shape and text box. These properties can be
adjusted in the following command groups.

Note: Learners must select first the object to be formatted.
The user can adjust its color, apply border, arrange its position and crop the
picture. These command groups provide the options to format a picture.
1. Adjust - this provides the option to remove
background, adjust brightness and contrast,
color as well as apply artistic effects. It is only
available when formatting pictures.
2. Picture/Shape styles - it contains
the options in applying picture borders
and its effects. Pictures, shapes and
text box have thiese options.

Note: Learners must select first the object to be formatted.
3. Arrange - commands that let the user
choose setting on wrap text and alignment of
the picture, shapes, and text box. It also
helps the user to arrange objects to place it
in front or back of another object.
4. Size - it contains settings for
formatting the size of picture, shapes, and
text box. Additionally, it also lets the user
crop a picture.
5. Text - used in shape and text box
formatting. It lets the user set the direction
on how the text will be oriented and its
alignment text inside a shape or text box.
# Inserting Tables
Tables are objects in a document that are made up of rows and columns. This is
how you can effectively deliver and organize the content of the document.
1. Click Insert tab.
2. On to Tables command group and
select Table command.
3. Select the number of columns and
rows you want to create or click
Insert Table. Clicking Insert Table
lets the user enter specific amount
of rows and columns.

FORMATTING TABLES
Tables can be formatted based on its layout and design. Formatting tables will
let the Microsoft Word show two Contextual Tabs for Table Tools which are the Table
Design Tab and the Layout Tab which are shown in figure below.

Note: Learners must select first the object to be formatted.
Users can change the design of the table the following are the command groups:
1. Table styles - it contains the options in changing the table style. It has the preset
style which can be accessed readily. It has also option for changing the shading of the
table.
2. Borders - this option lets the user modify the
border of the table. This modification include: border
style, border weight (thickness), border color, placement
of border (includes top and bottom only, outside border
or inside border) and border painting.
#Formatting Table Layout
Note: Learners must select first the object to be formatted.
The command groups for modifying the layout of a table are the following:
1. Draw - it lets users to add table borders or
remove table borders.
2. Rows and Columns - it provides
the users to add or remove rows or
columns. 1. 2.
3. Merge - this option is for merging or
splitting cells and table.
4. Cell Size - it controls the sizes of cells.

user distribute the size of columns or rows
evenly.
#Inserting List
Note: Learners must select first the text to be converted
into list
List lets the user enumerate information in a document. It makes easier to view
some data with a list. List can be either of the following: a bulleted list, numbered list or
a multileveled list. The following are the steps in inserting list in a document.

2. Go to Paragraph command group.
3. Click the list of your choice:

a. Bulleted list - bullet shape can be changed by clicking the drop down button
b. Numbered list - numbering can be changed to numbers, letters or Roman
numeral by clicking the drop down button
c. Multilevel list - multi-list format can be changed by clicking the drop down
button

#Inserting List
Note: Learners must select first the text to be converted
into list
List lets the user enumerate information in a document. It makes easier to view
some data with a list. List can be either of the following: a bulleted list, numbered list or
a multileveled list. The following are the steps in inserting list in a document.
Increase or decrease the indentation of the list according to user preference.
Sort or Arranged information using Sort command.
Press Enter to automatically generate a next bullet or number for the list.

PRINTING DOCUMENTS
One of the important features of a Word Processor, is creating a hardcopy of the
document being created or edited by printing it. As a rule, a computer must be first
connected to a printer to be able to print. Printing document follows the steps below:

3. Set the following before printing: 3a.
a. Copies - sets how many copies of the document will be
printed. 3b.
b. Printer - selects a printer to be used to print the
documents.
The printer selected must be indicated as Online which
means that the printer is connected to the computer and 3c.
