Human Posture Monitoring

System
Using Arduino Nano, Flex Sensor, and
Buzzer
Objective
• To monitor human posture using a flex sensor
and alert the user using a buzzer when poor
posture is detected. The system helps prevent
long-term posture-related issues.
Components Required
• - Arduino Nano
• - Flex Sensor
• - Buzzer
• - 10kΩ Resistor
• - Jumper Wires
• - Breadboard
• - USB Cable
Circuit Connections
• • Flex Sensor:
• - One end to +5V via 10kΩ resistor
• - Other end to GND
• - Middle node to A0 pin (analog input)

• • Buzzer:
• - Positive terminal to D4
• - Negative terminal to GND
Working Principle
• 1. The flex sensor changes resistance when
bent.
• 2. Arduino reads the analog value from the
flex sensor.
• 3. If the bending exceeds a threshold
(indicating poor posture), Arduino activates
the buzzer to alert the user.
• 4. The buzzer stops when posture is corrected.
Arduino Code (Core Logic)
• #define FLEX_PIN A0
• #define BUZZER_PIN 4

• void loop() {
• int flexValue = analogRead(FLEX_PIN);
• if (flexValue > 550)
• digitalWrite(BUZZER_PIN, HIGH);
• else
• digitalWrite(BUZZER_PIN, LOW);
Applications
• - Office posture monitoring for desk workers
• - Students to improve study posture
• - Rehabilitation and physiotherapy posture
correction
• - Smart wearables and health gadgets
Advantages & Limitations
• Advantages:
• - Simple and cost-effective
• - Helps prevent back and neck pain
• - Easy to prototype using Arduino

• Limitations:
• - Works only for one specific posture (limited
detection)
• - No wireless data logging
Future Scope
• - Integration with IoT for remote posture
tracking
• - Mobile notification alerts
• - Use of multiple flex sensors for full-body
posture analysis
• - Addition of machine learning for adaptive
calibration
Conclusion
• The Human Posture Monitoring System
effectively detects and alerts poor posture
using a simple, low-cost setup. It encourages
healthy sitting habits and lays the foundation
for more advanced smart health monitoring
systems.
