ABSTRACT

This abstract presents a novel approach to small-scale agriculture by

integrating SMART irrigation with GPS navigation and soil moisture sensing
technologies. The proposed system leverages GPS for precise field mapping and
irrigation management, while soil moisture sensors provide real-time data on soil
hydration levels. This combination enables targeted water application, optimizing
resource use and enhancing crop yields. By automating irrigation processes based on
accurate, location-specific data, this approach aims to improve water efficiency,
reduce operational costs, and support sustainable farming practices in small-scale
agricultural settings.

A smart irrigation system with moisture sensing technology is an innovative

solution that enhances water use efficiency in agriculture. By integrating soil
moisture sensors, these systems can monitor the water content in the soil in real time,
ensuring that crops receive the optimal amount of water needed for healthy growth.
This technology allows for precise irrigation scheduling, reducing water wastage and
promoting sustainability. Additionally, it helps farmers conserve resources, reduce
energy consumption, and lower operational costs. As climate change continues to
affect weather patterns and water availability, smart irrigation systems represent a
critical tool in supporting more resilient and efficient agricultural practices.

motors. It also describes the mounting structure's design and construction, which
was designed to ensure the system's stability and durability and also discusses the
integration of the soil moisture sensors, which are essential for the system's optimal
performance. The system uses solar panels to generate electricity, with a DC motor

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

Small-scale agriculture faces significant challenges in optimizing water

usage and crop management due to limited access to advanced technologies and
resources. Traditional irrigation methods often lead to inefficient water use and
negatively impacting crop yields. These methods lack precision in addressing
varying soil moisture levels across different areas of a field. The integration of
SMART irrigation systems, incorporating GPS navigation and soil moisture
sensing, offers a promising solution by enabling precise, data-driven irrigation
tailored to specific crop needs and soil conditions. The deployment of such
technologies in small-scale agriculture is hindered by issues such as high costs,
complexity, and the need for user training. These challenges is crucial for
enhancing water efficiency, reducing operational costs, and improving overall
agricultural productivity.
