VARIABLES
• There are 3 types of variable:
1. Independent variable = Things that you change
2. Dependent variable = Things that you want to find/measure
3. Controlled variable = Things that you keep the same.
Mg Mg wants to find out how the amount of SUNLIGHT affect the plant growth.
He uses the same type of plant, same type of soil and same amount of water.
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE CONTROLLED VARIABLE DEPENDENT VARIABLE
1. Amount of sunlight 1. Type of plant 1. Plant growth
(You have to give plants 2. Type of soil (You want to find out how
different amount of 3. Amount of water the growth of plant in
sunlight) different amount of
sunlight.)
Tun Tun wants to find if temperature affect the rate of evaporation. He uses the
same amount of water and same size bowls. He puts the bowls in different places
with different temperatures and measure the time taken for water to evaporate.
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE CONTROLLED VARIABLE DEPENDENT VARIABLE
1. Place/ Temperature 1. Amount of water 1. Time taken for water
2. Size of bowl to evaporate in each
different
temperature.
Myint Myint wants to find out if mold would grow faster in warmer temperature.
She uses the same type of bread and the same size of bread. She also makes sure
she keeps the bread sealed in a bag. She doesn’t allow any air to enter.
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE CONTROLLED VARIABLE DEPENDENT VARIABLE
1. Temperature 1. Type of bread 1. Amount of mold
2. Size of bread growing on bread.
3. No exposure to air
Variables
• Variables = Things that you measure or change in an experiment.
• E.g. Size, shape, length, mass, temperature and etc.
• There are 3 types of variables:
i) Independent variable (Things that you change)
ii) Dependent variable (Thing that you measure in the experiment)
iii) Controlled variable (Things that you keep the same)
