Definition:

providing a platform for running application software.
They act as an intermediary between the hardware and
the user or application programs.

 Operating System (OS)


 Manages hardware resources (CPU, memory, I/O
devices).
 Examples: Windows, Linux, macOS.
 Key components:
 Kernel
 File system
 Device drivers
 Command-line shell

 System Utilities
 Perform specific system-related tasks to maintain
or optimize the system.
 Examples:
 Disk cleanup
 Antivirus software
