Electronics

Introduction to Electronics
Electronics is the study of how electric current flows through circuits to power devices. It plays a crucial
role in modern life, as it is used in everything from mobile phones and computers to medical equipment
and transportation systems. Understanding electronics helps students grasp the basics of how everyday
devices work and prepares them for more advanced studies in physics and engineering.
Basic Electronic Components
Electronics consists of fundamental components that work together to control the flow of electricity in a
circuit. These components are the building blocks of all electronic devices, from simple LED circuits to
complex computers.
🔹 Resistors – Limit and control electric current flow in a circuit.
🔹 Capacitors – Store and release electrical energy as needed.
🔹 LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) – Emit light when electricity flows through them.
🔹 Switches – Turn circuits ON or OFF by opening or closing the connection.
🔹 Batteries – Supply electrical power by converting chemical energy.
🔹 Wires & Conductors – Carry electrical current between circuit components.
🔹 Diodes – Allow electricity to flow in only one direction.
🔹 Fuses – Protect circuits by breaking the connection if current is too high.
These components form the foundation of electronic devices, while more advanced components like transistors and
microcontrollers add greater functionality
How Electricity Flows
Electricity moves through a circuit from the positive side of a power source to the negative side. The flow of electrical
charge is called current, while voltage is the force that pushes the current through a circuit. Resistance controls how
much current flows by slowing it down. These three concepts—voltage, current, and resistance—form the foundation
of all electronic systems.
Types of Circuits
Circuits are pathways for electricity to flow and can be of two main types: series circuits and parallel circuits. In a
series circuit, all components are connected in a single loop, meaning if one component stops working, the entire
circuit breaks. In a parallel circuit, components are connected on separate paths, so even if one part stops working,
the rest of the circuit continues to function
Simple Circuit Activity
A fun way to learn about electronics is by building a simple LED circuit. To do this, students can connect a battery to a
switch, add an LED light, and include a resistor to prevent too much electricity from flowing. When the switch is
turned on, the LED will light up, demonstrating how a complete circuit works. This hands-on activity helps students
visualize how electricity flows through a circuit
