WHAT IS HUMAN RIGHTS?
• These are natural rights of all human
beings whatever their nationality, religion,
ethnicity, sex, language, and color.
• Inalienable rights that protect our dignity as
human beings.
• We are equally entitled to our human rights
without discrimination.
NATURAL RIGHTS
-Rights inherent to man and given to him by God as
human being.
Right to life, liberty, and security of a person (Article
3)
Right to equal protection under the law (Article 7)
Right to freedom from torture and cruel, inhuman or
degrading treatment or punishment (Article 5)
Right to respect for private and family life, honor,
and reputation (Article 12)
Right to own property, alone as well as in association
CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS
-Rights guaranteed under the fundamental charter of the
country.
Right to life, liberty, and security of a person (Article 3)
Prohibition of torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading
treatment or punishment (Article 5)
Right to a fair trial (Article 10)
•Rights safeguarding the accused under Bill Of Rights
Right to privacy (Article 12)
Right to freedom of movement and nationality (Article 13)
•This article guarantees everyone the right to freedom of movement within boarders of each state and to
leave any country, including their own.

-Rights provided by the lawmaking body of a
country or by law.
The right to receive a minimum wage
Right to desirable work and to join trade unions

ECONOMIC RIGHTS
- These are the rights of individuals and
groups to participate in the economic
activities of the society.
Rights to property, whether personal,
real, or intellectual. (own, use, and
dispose)
Right to practice one’s profession
Right to make a living (Article 23. 1-4)
POLITICAL RIGHTS
-These are rights of individual and groups to
participate in the political process of a society.
These rights are essential for ensuring that all
members of society have a voice in the
decisions that affect their lives, and that their
government is accountable to them.
Right to vote, right to be voted in public
office and the right to form political parties.
Right to free speech.
MAPPING HUMAN RIGHTS IN YOUR
COMMUNITY
1. Draw a map of your town. Include your homes, major
public buildings (e.g., parks, post office, city hall,
schools, places of worship) and public services (e.g.,
hospitals, fire department, police station) and any
other places that are important to the community
(e.g., grocery stores, cemetery, cinemas, gas
stations).
2. Analyze your maps from a human rights perspective.
Identify the rights associated with the different places
in your map. Look up to the relevant article(s) in the
UDHR and write the article number(s) next to that
place on the map.
