WHAT IS AN ANGLE?
 An angle is formed when two straight lines or
rays meet in a common endpoint. The
common point of contact is called the vertex
of an angle.
SYMBOL OF AN ANGLE
PARTS OF AN ANGLE
 Vertex – a vertex is a corner of an angle, a
point where two lines/ sides meet.

 Arms – the two sides of the angle, joined at

a common endpoint.

 Initial side – also known as the reference

line, a straight line from where an angle is
drawn. ∟OB.

 Terminal side – the side up to which the

angle measurement is done. ∟OA
PARTS OF AN ANGLE
TYPES OF ANGLES
 An acute angle – measures less than 90º at
the vertex.
 An obtuse angle – is between 90‫ ﹾ‬and 180º.

Obtuse angles are angles that are more than 90º but less
than 180º.
 A right angle – is measured exactly at 90º.

 A straight angle – is an angle that measures exactly

180º.
 A reflex angle – are angles that measures between 180º -

360º.
 An angle that makes a full circle or rotation is called a

360º.

TYPES OF ANGLES (CON ’T)
 Interior and exterior angles:

 Interior angles – interior angles are the

angles formed within or inside a shape.
 Example:

 Here, ∟ABC, ∟BCA and ∟ACD is an exterior

angles.

 Exterior angles – are the angles formed

outside a shape, between any side of a
shape and an extended adjacent side. Here ,
∟ACD is an exterior angle.

 Complementary and Supplementary
angles:
 Complementary angles: are angles that add

up to 90º (a right angle) are called

complementary angles.

 Here, ∟BXC and ∟ CXD are complimentary

angles.

 Supplementary Angles – angles that add
up to 180º ( a straight angle0 are called
supplementary angles.

 Here, ∟ AXD and ∟ CXD are supplementary

angles.

Content
What are parallel lines
Parallel lines and Transversal
Transversal on non – parallel lines
Transversal angles
Transversal on parallel lines
WHAT ARE PARALLEL LINES
 Parallel lines can be defined as two straight
lines facing each other that never meets no
matter how long you extend them.
PARALLEL LINES AND TRANSVERSAL
• A transversal line is a line that intersects two
straight lines at distinct points; or passes
through two lines in the same plane at two
distinct points.

LINES
TRANSVERSAL ANGLES
 When a transversal cuts two parallel lines,
several angles are formed by these two
intersections. Those are called transversal
angles. Those types of angles on a
transversal are given below.
 Corresponding angles
 Alternate interior angles
 Alternate exterior angles
 Co – interior angle
