Globalization
Introducti
on
•Globalization is compared to a road.
•The world used to be considered vast,
unchartered, distant, mysterious,
unfathomable, and staggering; no person had
the slightest knowledge of how he or she
could fathom it.
•Today, globalization has changed the way
people see the world.
•It has become a road people can tread to
discover many possibilities although for some
this unknown road can paint terror and fear.
What is
Globalizatio
n?
• According to National [Link],
globalization is a term that describes how
trade and technology have made the world
more connected and interdependent.
• Furthermore, it captures in its scope the
economic and social changes that have come
about as a result.
• The extension of trade, commerce, and
culture of an economy across different
nations. It allows economies to exchange
domestic products, services, technologies,
ideas, and other resources globally.
• Globalization is the process of increased
interconnectedness among countries most
notably in economics, politics, and culture.
(Stief, 2019)
• According to the Cambridge dictionary, it is
a situation in
which available goods and services,
or social and cultural influences, gradually b
ecome similar in all parts of the world.

mic, cultural,
and political relations among all
the countries of the world as
a result of travel and communica
tion becoming easy. (Cambridge

• Globalization is a spectrum of scientific,
economic, linguistic, cultural, social, and
political changes that have shaped the world
over the past 50-odd years.
• Globalization is a complex and multifaceted
phenomenon. It has been credited with a
wide range of powers and effects.
• It is both “natural” and an inevitable outcome
of technological progress, and it can create
positive economic and political
convergences.
• Globalization is the interactive co-
evolution of millions of technological,
cultural, economic, social, and
environmental trends at all
conceivable spatiotemporal scales.
• Even though it is economic in
structure, it is equally a political
phenomenon, shaped by negotiations
and interactions between institutions
of transactional capital, nation-states,
and international corporations.
• Globalization is equated with economic growth
and recognition.
Origins of
Globalizatio

• Globalization has taken a long stride
after its first potent spark in the heart
of the once mighty Great Britain.
• Great Britain started placing value on
English.
•The Old World in shape. Form, and power of
Great Britain seized and established territories
and empires. It was through communication,
transportation, and trade that globalization took
its speed and presence.
•Today, English is known to be the ‘lingua
franca’ or a universal language which is
evident in the areas of education,
governance, communication, entertainment,
and business.

structural phenomenon of growing
and interfacing interdependence
among different countries of the
world.

and scientific development.
• Swift communications and more
accessible and shareable information.
•Communication has been increasing globally,
blurring national boundaries. (Wakat et al.,
2018)

global setting can be a challenge.
• To effectively communicate in a global
context, a general understanding of the
differences in conducting communication from
one country to another or from one culture
helps avoid miscommunication.
•The goal of global communication is to achieve
communication that gets the desired response
leading to harmonious connections.
