GLOBALISATION AS A WORD

• After Magellan’s voyage around the world in 1522:


the word “globe” came into common use for the planet.

• At the end of 19 th century:


the word “global” appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary
meaning “world-wide” (adjective).

• In the 1940s:
words “globalism” and “to globalize” in the dictionaries.

• In 1961: the word “globalization” appears in dictionaries.

corporate institutions and the capitalist philosophy that leads
to the shrinking of the world in economic terms.
