Weather conditions repeat over days,
weeks, and sometimes even months.
Each place has its own pattern. For example, all
deserts are dry. Some deserts are cold, while others
are hot

The weather in a place depends on many
conditions.
Air pressure: decreases as the distance above sea (A) High pressure
level increases.
Cold
The Sun heats up areas near the equator more than
areas near the poles. Thus, areas near the Earth’s poles warm
are cooler than areas near the equator.
Mountains also affect the weather. The temperature at
the top of a
mountain is usually colder than the temperature at the
bottom of the
mountain.
Air Masses
Is a large volume of air that has similar temperature and moisture
conditions.
-Movement of air masses causes weather changes
-dry air masses form over land, and wet air masses form over
water.
When two air masses move into each other, the place
where they meet is called a front
• Land breezes happen at night when the land is cooler.
Cooler, higher-pressure air flows from the land toward the sea,
forming a land breeze.
• Sea breezes happen during the day when the land is
warmer. Cooler, higher-pressure air flows from over the water to the
land, forming a sea breeze.
Weather Maps
A weather map helps us know the weather in an area. Weather maps use symbols to show the weather. The symbol of the Sun means the weather is sunny while the symbol of
a cloud with rain means it is raining.
