• Written communication is any written message that two or more


people exchange. Written communication is typically more formal but
less efficient than oral communication. Examples of written
communication include:

• Emails Text messages


• Blog post Business letters
• Reports Proposals
• Contracts Instant Messages
• Brochures Memos

• Fax Advertisements
Qualities Of Effective Written Communication

 All effective forms of written communication have these qualities:


• Comprehensive: Includes all the relevant details
• Accurate: All details are correct
• Appropriate: Has the right tone and level of formality
• Composition: Has correct spelling and grammar
• Clear: Is understandable
Informal Communication Via
Written Documents
• Informal communication is any type of communication that does not take place using the
formal methods or structures.
• Most common types of informal communication:
• Conversations which happens between friends, relatives and peers.
• Phone calls – a quick phone call can clarify more than an email could ever do.
• Instant messaging – from WhatsApp, there are endless instant messaging apps. This
informal communication method is especially popular with younger people.
• Informal communications include speaking to a person about the weather, writing an email
about your holiday, sending a birthday card or talking to someone at the grocery shop.
Informal communications can also be gestures (with no words).
• Informal communication in the workplace is often called ‘the grapevine’.
