ABSTRACT
Our project is for monitoring various weather parameters remotely. Weather is a state of the atmosphere in a particular area and
the current state of weather may change over a short span of time. To monitor such changes in real time as they happen this
project uses the technology of Internet of Things (IoT). The devices used are several sensors to track temperature, humidity,
atmospheric pressure, and rain drop sensor all connected to a central Microcontroller based development board NodeMCU
ESP8266 which has Wi-Fi inbuilt to connect to a network with internet access. Weather condition depends on temperature and
air pressure differences between two areas. We use the 8266 board to send real-time weather data over the internet to Blynk
App where the sensed data is real-time, accurate and in a easy to understand manner for users.
INTRODUCTION
[Link] and technology help us predict the weather conditions of any place, like knowing if it will rain tomorrow or if the day
will be hot or cold.
2. A weather station measures temperature, humidity, pressure, and rainfall on land or sea.
3. A self-regulating weather system uses sensors to collect and record data without human help.
4. A smart weather reporting system works over the internet and gives live weather updates.
5. The system uses temperature, humidity, pressure, and rain sensors to collect weather data.
6. IoT connects sensors to the internet, allowing data to be sent to the cloud and accessed anytime.
7. The Blynk App and cloud are used to view weather data remotely and store it online.
8. The system sends alerts, adjusts appliances, shows graphs, and helps in long-term analysis.
9. It uses a NodeMCU ESP8266 board and DHT11 sensor are used to process and send data to the server.
10. Weather data is sent live through Wi-Fi to an online server and can be checked from anywhere.
OBJECTIVE
Weather Data Collection : The main goal of the weather
system is to collect correct weather data like temperature,
humidity, rainfall, and air pressure.
Real-Time Monitoring : The system gives real-time (live)
weather updates. It helps people see weather changes
quickly and take the right action.
Accessibility and User-Friendliness : The system is made at
low cost so that more people can use it. This makes it easy
to use and useful in many places.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Traditional weather monitoring systems often rely on centralized weather
stations, which may not provide accurate and localized weather information.
Additionally, these systems are expensive to install and maintain, limiting
their availability in certain areas. Moreover, the lack of real-time data and
limited accessibility hinders the efficient prediction and response to weather-
related events.
Example: A small village is in the hills. There is no weather station nearby.
The closest station is 50 km away . One day, it rains heavily in the village.
The weather station does not give a quick warning . A flood happens, and
people are not ready . If the village had a small weather system, it could give
an early warning. People could stay safe.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENT
Software requirements
1) Arduino IDE : It is a free software. We use it to write and send code to the board. It works with Arduino and NodeMCU
boards.
2) Blynk IoT Software platform : Blynk is a mobile app. It shows live data from sensors. It helps us see the weather on our
phone.
3) Operation : All sensors are joined to the NodeMCU board with wires. The board is on a breadboard. It connects to Wi-Fi
and sends weather data to the internet. The Blynk app shows this data in real-time.
Hardware requirements
1) NodeMCU ESP8266It : is a small board with Wi-Fi. It collects data from sensors. It sends data to the Blynk app using the
internet.
2) DHT11 Sensor : It checks temperature and
humidity. It gives data in digital form. It sends this
data to the NodeMCU.
3) BMP180 Sensor : It checks air pressure. It is small
and fast. It sends pressure data to the NodeMCU.
4) LCD Display : It shows numbers and letters. It
uses light to show data. It is thin and uses less power.
ADVANTAGES
Real-time data collection : This system sends weather data quickly. People
can use the data right away. For example, farmers can decide when to water
crops. Transport workers can keep roads safe.
Cost-effective : It is cheaper than old weather systems. It uses low-cost sensors
and Wi-Fi to save money.
Improved accuracy : It gives more correct data. The sensors check weather at
different times, so we get a full picture.
Scalability : We can add more sensors if we need more data. We can also
remove them if not needed.
DISADVANTAGES
Security risk : Hackers can attack the system and change or steal the data.
Dependence on technology : If the machine stops working, it will not collect correct data.
Data privacy concerns : The system collects a lot of data. People may worry about how their data is used.
Limited coverage : The system checks only nearby weather. Things like heaters or sunlight can change the sensor reading.
APPLICATIONS
Agriculture: Helps farmers decide when to water, plant, or protect crops . It gives
data like temperature, rain, humidity, and wind.
Transportation : Gives live weather updates to drivers . Helps keep roads safe
during bad weather.
Energy management :Helps power companies use wind and solar energy better. It
shows weather changes to plan power use.
Disaster management :Warns about floods, storms, and other dangers. Helps plan
rescue, food, water, and safety steps.
Smart homes and building :Helps control fans, ACs, and heaters. Makes rooms
more comfortable using weather data.
RESULT
CONCLUSION
An IoT-based weather monitoring system is a highly effective and efficient way to gather and analyze real-time weather data.
With the help of sensors and other IoT devices, it can provide accurate information about temperature, humidity, air pressure,
wind speed and direction, and other weather-related parameters. Such a system can be implemented on a large scale, covering
multiple locations, and can be accessed remotely through the internet. The data collected can be analyzed and visualized in
real-time, enabling quick and informed decision-making.
