DIPLOMA IN LAND SURVEYING

TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY OF KASARANI

GROUNDS SECTION G, E & F

BY
NIKASIO MIGWI MUGO
ADMMISION NO:DLS-838-JAN 2023
BACKGROUND INFORMATION.
• Topographical surveying is a critical component in understanding the spatial
distribution and physical characteristics of a given area. It involves the
detailed mapping and documentation of both natural and man-made features
on the surface of the earth, including elevations, depressions, vegetation,
buildings, roads, and drainage systems. The information collected is crucial
in planning, designing, and implementing various developmental and
infrastructural projects.
• Kasarani Grounds, located in Nairobi County, Kenya, serves multiple
recreational, sporting, and public event functions. Sections G, E, and F of
these grounds are often used for public gatherings, sports, and
administrative purposes. Despite the area's frequent use and importance,
there exists limited up-to-date and detailed topographical data for these
specific sections. Conducting a topographical survey will provide a current
and comprehensive spatial framework to inform future development,
maintenance, and efficient utilization of these grounds.
PROBLEM STATEMENT

• The absence of a recent and accurate topographical

map of Kasarani Grounds Sections G, E, and F has
posed challenges in effective planning, maintenance,
and management. Infrastructural development and
ground maintenance efforts are often hampered by
the lack of reliable data on elevation, drainage
patterns, and the locations of both natural and man-
made features. This study seeks to fill this information
gap by conducting a comprehensive topographical
survey to produce a detailed map for informed
decision-making.

OBJECTIVES
MAIN OBJECTIVES
• To conduct a detailed topographical survey of Kasarani Grounds Sections G, E, and F and
produce an accurate topographical map showing all existing natural and man-made features.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
• 1. To identify and record all existing natural features such as vegetation, water bodies, and terrain elevations
within Sections G, E, and F.
• 2. To locate and document all man-made features including buildings, roads, drainage systems, and utility
infrastructure.
• 3. To process, analyze, and present the collected data in the form of a detailed topographical map.
• 4. To provide recommendations for possible future improvements or developments based on the survey
findings.
