ABSTRACT :
• We chose this project because many road
accidents happen when drivers feel sleepy or tired.
Our idea is to build a system that can watch the
driver’s eyes using a camera and warn them if
they start to feel drowsy. This can help prevent
accidents and keep people safe while driving.
MOTIVATION :
• The main idea behind this project is to make
driving safer by warning drivers when they
start to feel sleepy. Drowsy driving is a big
cause of accidents, and this system aims to
spot signs of tiredness early so the driver can
stay alert and avoid danger.
Driver Drowsiness Detection:
DOMAINS:
•Machine Learning: Training Computers to Learn from Data
•Deep Learning: Using Neural Networks to Learn from Large Data
•Computer Vision: Helping Computers See and Understand Images
and Videos
ABOUT DATASET:
• This dataset is ideal for multi-class classification with categories
like open/closed eyes and yawning, making it highly relevant for
real-time driver drowsiness detection tasks using machine
learning.
• Type of Images:
• Open Eyes – Eyes open, driver is alert.
• Closed Eyes – Eyes closed, sign of sleepiness.
• Yawn – Face shows yawning.
• No Yawn – Normal face, no yawning.
SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
Python
YOLOv5/YOLOv8
PyTorch
OpenCV
Numpy & Pandas
Matplotlib
Roboflow
Laptop/PC
Model Training and Evaluation Steps
•Split Data
•Train Model
•Validate Model
•Test Model
•Deploy Model
CONCLUSION;
This project shows how machine learning and computer vision can
be used to detect driver drowsiness in real time. By analyzing eye
movements and detecting prolonged eye closure, the system can
warn drivers before accidents happen. It is a simple, cost-effective
solution that can improve road safety and prevent drowsy driving
incidents.
