Types of Exposition Texts in English
1. Analytical Exposition

The first type is analytical exposition. So, analytical exposition is an

exposition text that begins with a statement from the author to show
their attitude and position in responding to an issue or theme that will be
discussed.

Next, the author will put forward many opinions and arguments to
support the opinion that has been written at the beginning, then the
author closes or ends the writing with a restatement such as the opinion
at the beginning as a form of affirmation that he wants to convey to the
audience.
2. Hortatory Exposition

Actually, it is quite easy to distinguish between analytical exposition and

hortatory exposition. If analytical exposition begins with the author's
statement, then hortatory exposition is a type of exposition text that
begins with a statement in the form of a hot or viral issue to be raised as
a theme of the writing.

If so, the author will state various supporting arguments that are relevant
to the theme of the writing to make the reader better understand the
author's point of view.

Finally, the text will be closed with suggestions from the author regarding
what the audience should do in responding to the issue that has been
discussed.
Exposition Text Structure
1. Thesis
In general, in Indonesian, this section is also called a general
statement that acts as an opener in an expository text. Through the
thesis statement, the author will usually begin to introduce the
issue, topic, or author's view on a topic that will be discussed in the
text.

2. Arguments
After introducing the issue, of course the next step is to convey the
arguments or opinions that you have to support the issue or topic of
the writing.

In this case, arguments can be in the form of personal opinions,

logical reasons, relevant data from trusted sources, statements from
experts, or other supporting facts.

3. Reiteration
The last structure in the exposition text is reiteration. In various
other texts, we are familiar with the term conclusion. Well, in the
exposition text, it is called reiteration, this section contains the
conclusion or conclusion of the author regarding the entire topic
discussed at the beginning.

The difference is, in reiteration, the author will provide a

reaffirmation or recommendations and suggestions related to the
Characteristics of expository text are:
1. Expository text is a writing containing factual knowledge or
information based on real conditions.
2. The information conveyed by the author is written briefly, clearly,
and straightforwardly, and uses standard language in accordance with
formal English grammar.
3. The entire contents of the text contain answers to 5W + 1H, namely
what, where, when, who, why, and how.
4. Expository text does not side with anyone for certain interests.
Language Features Exposition Text
1. Use simple present tense
Karena teks eksposisi adalah tulisan yang bersifat faktual alias non-fiksi,
maka tenses yang digunakan adalah simple present yang menyatakan
tentang kondisi masa kini.
Namun, kaidah ini bukanlah aturan mutlak. Artinya, kamu bisa saja untuk
menggunakan beberapa jenis tenses lain yang disesuaikan dengan isi
atau konteks kalimat.

2. Use conjunction
Secara umum, conjunction adalah kata hubung. Kamu masih ingat, kan?
Dalam teks eksposisi, terdapat struktur argumen penulis yang
dihubungkan dengan pembahasan topik. Jadi, teks eksposisi banyak
memakai conjunction pada penulisan kalimatnya, misalnya saja
seperti so, therefore, the reason, etc.

3. Use a lot of cause and effect word

Contoh connecting words antara lain even though, although, however, nevertheless, on the contrary, on the other hand , dan masih banyak lagi.

5. Use vocabularies to express writer’s expression

Teks eksposisi adalah jenis teks yang tidak luput dari argumen penulis. Oleh sebab itu, penulis perlu memiliki keterampilan untuk mengekspresikan pendapat dan opini mereka menggunakan berbagai vocabulary dalam bahasa Inggris.
Secara sederhana, kosakata yang bisa digunakan pada teks yang satu ini adalah think, must, try, need, important, and so on so forth .

6. Use vocabularies which will provoke audience emotion

Seperti yang sudah kita bahas sebelumnya, selain bersifat argumentative, teks eksposisi pun memiliki tujuan untuk mempengaruhi pembaca, bukan?
Maka dari itu, penulis harus mampu untuk menyajikan pembahasan yang dikemas dengan berbagai kosakata bahasa Inggris untuk membangkitkan emosi pembaca, misalnya concern, innocent, unreasonable, dan masih banyak lagi.
